poured a hazy golden, small head that diminished quickly to a very thin collar.
smell is of banana and clove, very authentic aroma here.
taste is citrusy with banana and clove notes in the back, if someone had told me that this beer is German I would believe them! very authentic tasting hefeweizen..very good as well.
overall this is probably the best hefeweizen made on this side of the ocean that I have had...there may have been a couple of others, but this one stands up beautifully..I recommend!

Poured into a weizen glass.

A: The appearance is extremely hazy, pale golden straw color that gets almost as light as lemon juice around the edges. Fluffy 2 finger head fell to about a cm, some patchy lacing.

S: Semi sweet, very spicy clove aroma, dry toasted grain. Very little fruit in the aroma.

T/M: Spicy wheat grain, dry slightly funky yeast, hints of lemon zest. Crisp, dry finish. Light-medium body, pretty refreshing, high carbonation bite.

O: Sierra Nevada did a good job to create a good legitimate weiss beer. On par with some Bavarian versions.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a Disney Rainforest Cafe thimble glass in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed from notes. Served refrigerator cold. Expectations are high given its current rating, but I am suspicious of Sierra Nevada as a brewery. Not paired with food.

Poured per the label's instructions: poured two thirds, swirled, and then poured the rest. (I assumed the glass was to be swirled, not the bottle).

A: Pours a three finger head of slight cream, fair thickness, and average (~two minute) retention. Colour is a murky hazy light burnt orange. It's pretty standard fare for a hefeweizen. No unique elements here, and nothing sticks out or impresses me.

Sm: Yeast, faded orange peel, and some lemon citrus ester hops. A light to mild strength aroma. It's clean rather than dirty like some hefeweizens (a good sign).

T: Wheat as the foundation, with light orange peel on the climax and in the third act. Some clove, mainly on the climax. Light banana throughout. No yeast really comes through, a shame. It's well balanced for a hefeweizen, but lacks any inventive boldness or unique element. Built well, but plays it safe and is a bit boring as a result. I enjoy it and it's certainly pleasant and refreshing, but it lacks that something extra I expect from a great hefeweizen.

Mf: Smooth and wet, suiting the flavours well. Some coarseness in the third act to coax out the flavours more. Not too thick nor too thin. Unlike many hefeweizens, it's not too sharp or overcarbonated going down. Quite well executed for the style. Impressive.

Dr: Very drinkable, but most beers in the style are, and this one doesn't particularly set itself apart. It's a quality hefeweizen and I'd certainly have it again, especially on draught. A lovely little hefeweizen.
