Pours a nice clear golden yellow, with a frothy white head that fades a bit. The smell is huge, very distinct yeast, with clove and banana, also some doughy bread going on as well. The flavor is complex but not overpowering, a lot of different flavors packed in here. The taste starts out with the clove, banana and yeast flavor and moves to a crisp subtle malt, and ends with the yeast and bread notes. The mouthfeel is light, crisp and smooth, great balance in flavor and carbonation. Overall this beer is great, the flavors are done extremely well, and the beer is so good you want to keep coming back to this one.

12 oz. bottle from a six pack purchased at a bottle shop, 07/2011. Well stored since purchase. The date code would seem to indicate that this was bottled late May, 2011.

Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier Glass.

Pours a nice one finger head which hangs for a bit then subsides into a 1/8” cap. Lots of carbonation though, very lively, an easy one swirl revival for the head.

Beautiful golden wheat color, cloudy with all the yeast sediment. Streams of carbonation constantly come from the bottom of the glass.

The smell starts with a huge blast of distinct yeast, hard crusty bread, golden malt, and yes lemon peel. Just a faint hint of hops, then more yeasty bread. Extremely enjoyable, complex, and lasts throughout the pour.

The first sip hits you with a very crisp, citrusy, acidity that adds great balance to this beer, bread and yeast flavors, orange with a hint of lemon, great carbonation with fine bubbles that reminds one of good champagne. Delicious and incredibly refreshing, you could just drink pints forever!

Fairly long finish, with some nice hops showing, golden malt, and again delicious yeast/bread.

An amazingly delicious American Wheat Beer. Tastes like what I remember having in Germany. Great mouth feel from the carbonation which lasts throughout the pour. The delicious combination of citrus/malt/yeast invites you to drink until it’s gone……I think I will have another!

On Tap

Urge Gastropub
San Diego, CA

Cloudy golden yellow with a pillowy, persistent white head. Consistent and regular lacing down the glass.

The aroma is classic hefe: banana and yeast, though this American version does have a touch of citrus/pine hop presence as well.

Banana and citrus flavors dominate, along with mild tangy yeast, and some faint bubble gum. Very nice American interpretation of this style.

Crisp, medium bodied. Sierra Nevada never feels here, no matter the beer.

A great American version of a hefeweizen.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4

Appearance: Mit hefe, this pours a cloudy straw color with an authentically fluffy head that leaves plenty of lace behind

Smell: Banana, clove and a squeeze of lemon

Taste: While there is some banana, up front, the clove and lemon flavors move quickly to assert themselves and make this a rather punjent example of the style; in the aftertaste, the spices continue to linger at the expense of the banana

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with some creaminess; slightly undercarbonated for the style

Overall: Not quite top tier and a rather American twist on the style, this is still a very nice brew; just wish there was a bit more banana influence, overall

A:Nice yellow/cloudy amber with a nice big white head on it.

S &T: A sweet and fruity smell which becomes more elaborate upon sipping. Banana and cloves, like you'd expect from a Hefeweizen. A big wheaty body with some trace amounts of citrus in both the nose and taste.

M: High carbonation makes it feel almost fluffy. Again, what I'd expect from the style

O: Maybe the best american version of a hefeweissen I've had. Always a good summer choice. Even tastes good out of the bottle at a barbecue. And for the price, (8.99 a 6pk for me) this is a winner for sure.

12oz. bottle into weizen glass.

A: Cloudy yellow with an impressively large white head.

S: Oranges. Spices - clove, mostly. Banana.

T/M: Banana, clove, slight cracker-like malt, some fruity tartness. Maybe bubblegum in the aftertaste. Tight, lively carbonation carbonation. Wheat twang.

Overall: A well-done hefeweizen. And I usually don't like American-made wheat beers.

A: Pours a very cloudy golden color with a finger of fizzy head that quickly fades leaving behind sparse film and very little lacing.

S: Sort of faint, but I can tell banana and cloves are there.

T: I'm not the biggest hefeweizen fan, but this is nice. To me, it's almost like a Belgian take on a classic German style. Bananas, yeast, cloves, pales malts. Clean and crisp.

M: This has a decent mouthfeel to it. Carbonation burns the tongue a bit and provides a bite.

O: Again, hefeweizen isn't my favorite style, but I like this. I couldn't see myself drinking many of these before wanting to move on to something else, but if handed this by a friend, I'd gladly drink it.

Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with a fingers worth of fluffy white foam sitting on top. Large amount of carbonation bubbles noted. Decent head retention.

Aroma is fruity yet clean. Definitely picking up some banana and clove. Maybe a touch of cardamom as well. Very appealing.

Carbonated bite and a bit of lemon flavor up front followed by hints of ginger and lemongrass. Finishes rather smooth with a slight tartness and just the right amount of lingering flavor.

Medium bodied mouthfeel with a lively carbonation.

Overall, I'd have to say that this is one of my favorite Hefeweizens. Super refreshing and flavorful at the same time.

Morey's Bottom Line: For a beer so low in alcohol, this beer certainly doesn't lack in flavor or taste. A beer I'll be picking up every summer.

12oz bottle poured into a weizen glass. Cloudy straw color with a fluffy, bright white head and great carbonation. This is looking like a good authentic hefeweizen.

Aroma is ripe bananas, yeast, and spice: pepper and clove.

Taste is light and lemony with a dry peppery finish. Smooth mouthfeel.

This may not rank with the finest German hefeweizens but it's still a very good interpretation of the style.

Pours a cloudy golden color with lots of bubbles and a thick head that sticks around and leaves good lacing.

Smell is of tangy wheat with a bit of banana and clove.

Taste is similar to the smell, wheat and banana at first and the end leaves you with a bit of spicy clove and a bit of yeast funk. Mouthfeel is very nice, maybe chewy, light body with bubbles that slightly tickle.

Good hefe, try it out during the hotter months.

This pours a cloudy bright yellow with a solid finger of bright white head.

Bananas and cloves on the nose. A touch of vanilla extract as well.

The flavours are very similar on the nose put for me could are little bit messy. Nice touch of lemon at the back. A little too sweet for me.

Carbonation is a little high for me but I suppose that is a stylistic trait.

I know I'm a long way of the norm with my review but this beer just didn't rock my boat that much.

Appearance: Pale yellow yet nicely hazy. On top is a spongey white head.

Aroma: Mild banana notes apple skin. Little wisps of phenolic alchol notes. Cloves are among other aromas such as yeasty bits floral hop with a bit of grain.

Taste: An incredibly smooth mouthfeel to start. Banana bits toffee, floral hops are all over with a hint of grain in the finish. Malts are there as well and give off a subtle breadiness.

Notes: This one is solid very drinkable. Cheers.

Poured according to the instructions on the bottle, and it came out a cloudy golden straw color with lots of chunky white head. Smells of yeast, banana and passionfruit with a slightly floral aroma. The flavor is sweet and light, with a light fruitiness. Not a lot of bitterness, but it doesn't need it. Finishes clean. Mouthfeel is also light and a little tingly. Overall, an awesome hefe and great beer. I'm glad it finally made it over to Australia.

This is an amazing beer to sip on for the Summer months. It is an exceptional USA made Bavarian style Hefe.

A-Poured from a bottle into a pint glass the appearance is a light copper color filled with beautiful unfiltered wheat granules. There is a white bubbly head that does not last long however this is common for Hefes.

S-The smell is full of banana nodes along with a mild caramel wheat finish.

T-Wonderful taste of bananas, followed by a mellow citrus after taste, this after taste does not stick around long, so enjoy it while it is present.

M- the mouthfeel is one of a lighter beer not thick what-so-ever which gives it a great Summer beer vibe. The ending feel is smooth and velvety which make this Hefe extra special in my opinion.

O- this is an excellent Bavarian style Hefe which I will continue to enjoy with friends by a pool in the near months to come.

I poured this beer into a pint glass, it has a nice hazy yellow body with a small white head. The smell has some banana to it and really nice earthy tones to it. The taste is malty with the banana and some clove coming through and some clove. Very nice mouth feel, roll down quite nice. Overall this is a winner.

Poured from a 12oz bottled on May 12, 2011 into a pint glass. Bonus points to SN for including the bottling date.

Appearance is a hazy, golden yellow with some lively carbonation.

Smell is yeasty/bready with a definite tang. Cloves come through clearly. Some herbal hoppiness as well.

Taste of banana, cloves, tart with some spicy/earthy hops.

Mouthfeel is light and prickly but enough presence to be satisfying. Dry finish. Very nice for the style.

Overall I think this is a quality American hefe well suited for the summer months.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass. (What? My weizen glass was dirty.)

A: Opaque orange-yellow with honey highlights and a tall creamy white head. Hills and valleys of lacing cling to the sides of the glass.

S: Yeasty and damp earth with a faint hint of spice.

T: A hearty malt body armed with notes of banana and clove. The heady wheat flavor of this one sticks with you a while after you've finished a sip. Like drinking a loaf of fresh baked bread.

M: Medium-bodied but creamy and a little sticky. Carbonation is fairly light, a little lighter than I like it in fact.

O: Not quite Weihenstephaner, but better than many others of the type. Good to see an American-brewed hefe of this quality.

Pours a delicious creamy yellow colour. Good head and lacing.

S: Must, lemon, wheat-funk. Lots of lemon. Banana.

T: More of the same with what I thought was initially hops. Banana comes out even more in the taste. Sweet and sour but ends dry.

M: Thick and creamy and honestly fantastic. Definitely velvety as described on the label.

O: Think they massively nailed the style here. This beer deserves great praise. Got more banana notes from this than I have from any other hefe, including the classics.

A- Pours a cloudy golden color. Produces a huge 3 fingers of fluffy white head.

S- Lots of esters, banana, clove spice, some yeast, wheat. Pretty much what you would expect but very clean, simple, and appealing.

T- This is a damn delicious beer. Loads of banana, clove, and yeast, light alcohol with some fruit. The wheat has a slightly thick, bready texture.

M- Medium bodied, very very smooth with a crisp, slightly dry finish.

O- Super drinkable and refreshing. This beer embodies the style just about perfectly; if someone blindfolded me and had me taste this there's no way I would guess it wasn't a German Hefeweizen. A very impressive beer.

This beer has a hazy brass colored body. There was not much for head or lace. What lace that was present would be spread out. It has clove and banana like smell. The flavor is good, a little more bitter than most German variants but it is Sierra and it is what they are known for. There is some bubble gum and heavy clove esters to the taste. The aftertaste is a bit metallic and banana like. The mouthfeel is medium with a lot of carbonation burn which was odd because it did not have much head.

Bottle purchased from Leura Cellars. Wonderful that there is now a steady supply of Sierra Nevada beers making their way to Australian shores.

Pours a suitably cloudy and light-coloured yellow, with a fine, but rather effete head of white. Lacing is patchy, but looks like the classic examples. The head is a bit of a disappointment, but otherwise it looks good.

Nose is crisp and clean, with some lingering underripe banana characters. The acidity of the wheat is very present here, giving a tone I associate more the the American wheat ale, than the bursting and redolent esters fo the German examples. Still, pretty good nose.

Taste is where this takes off. Clean, smooth and wheaty with slight weizen-yeast tones on the finish. Clear palate, excruciatingly refreshing and with just enough of that light touch of acidity to prove that you need no slice of orange with it. Very refreshing and very clean, and almost indistinguishable from one of the best German examples.

A great American beer, brewed amazingly close to style. Apart from the lack of oomph on the nose, I'm sure the Germans would very happily claim this as one of their own. Crackingly refreshing brew.

A good solid hefeweizen. Looks the part.
Shoots off some mild banana notes, mostly cloves I'm getting.

Somewhat drier than a lot of other hefs and not at all cloying. Almost full bodied. Quit upfront, not a shy daisy like some can be.

Finishes long and a little grainy but all the while tasty.

Poured into a weizen glass.

A - A pale yellow coloration, hazy and unfiltered, the way a hefe should be. Nice head with moderate retention.

S - Deliciously complex, boasting hints of banana, lemon, nutmeg, clove, and other spices I cannot readily identify.

T - The banana flavors aren't as prevalent as the nose led me to believe, but there are some there, along with touches of citrus juice and orange peel.

M - Light bodied with a relatively mellow carbonation. Finishes pretty clean and is ultimately refreshing.

D - For an American rendition of the German Hefeweizen, this is pretty spot on. Picked up a sixer of this and thoroughly enjoyed the majority of them, I ended up giving 2 away because I wanted others to try this tasty brew.
