A: Looks golden, and a little cloudy.
Head: Very frothy, long lasting, like Roger Staubach.
S: Banana, citrus, not clove!
Mouth: thin, light, yet malty, epic balance.
Taste: Extraordinary-- bananas, citrus, no clove for you clove ban fans.

Overall-- if Weiss is your cup of beer, get you some.

This works. Pours a golden color with a moderate head that lingers for a bit. Wheat, yeast, and banana on the nose, with a somewhat spicy clove flavor along with the wheat, yeast, and banana on the tongue. Beautiful smooth mouthfeel with prickly carbonation. The banana really makes this one, but there seems to be some orange in there as well. The wheat and yeast taste fresh and make this one of the most refreshing hefeweizens that I've come across, probably because the clove, yeast, and banana collaborate so well with the wheat, and because the mouthfeel is crisp and just thick enough. This goes down so, so easy. Sierra Nevada has a wonderful pale ale, but this just might be their best product.

12oz bottle into tulip glass.

A: Opaque gold, streams of carbpnation rising. Half finger head dissipates quickly.

S: Butterscotch.

T: Bit of caramel, maybe banana.

M: Carbonation comes on midway, slight wheat thickness. Goes away suddenly.

O: Decent hefe, a bit different than the most traditional German examples. Easy going but I'll go for some from the Fatherland next time.

A friend of mine brought some for me directly from Cali.
A: pours a hazy-straw color, with a very low carbonation leaving almost no head at all

S: citrusy, cloves and yeasty aromas

T: Mild taste of grains, the coriander flavor is much less than the one in hoegarden beer, slightly orangey

M: light beer, very refreshing easy to drink in a hot day

Camping in Lake George, NY and this pulled from the cooler. Smelled like a beer, not too strong and definitely not a Coors Lite. Tasted crisp and clean and not too heavy. Enjoyed the entire to the last drop. Not real fancy and not too hoppy. Good beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance is straw-colored, with a fingers-width of white foamy head.

Smell is dominated by wheat malts, lemon, and coriander.

Taste is spicier than I expected, including coriander and floral hops. I am not a fan of the lingering bready aftertaste, however.

Mouthfeel is thin bodied. There is a bit of carbonation, but maybe not enough (which might explain the aftertaste).

Overall a good hefeweizen, but not one I will go out of my way to buy again.

A - pours a light straw color with multiple fingers of white head. Great retention and lacing.

S - lots of coriander spice, light clove/banana esters. Slightly lemony.

T - really nice flavors. Pretty run of the mill with extra emphasis on the banana. Light lemony flavors transition to coriander and yeasty qualities. Aftertaste is light slice and semi sweet

M - light bodied very refreshing

O - standard here with more flavorful spices and banana.

A - Poured as instructed on the bottle 2/3 into the weizen glass, swirled and then the remaining third. Huge fluffy white head, beautiful straw, hazy body. Accentuated by the glass.

S - Heavy on the coriander & lemon.

T - Not as powerful as the smell led me to believe, pepper, coriander, some clove.

M - Light, smooth & refreshing. Hard to take this one slow. Low carbonation. Perhaps my pour was too aggressive and I released all the Co2 early.

O - I'm a true believer in SN and I'm partial to almost anything they make. Even though Hefeweizens aren't my usual go to I was very satisfied with this brew.

From a 355 ml bottle into a hefe glass.

A-The brew looks like a hefeweizen should look with a bright, yellowish color, murk, and an appearance that shifts with the light. Small point loss for the head, which is a little underwhelming at one and one-half fingers of nearly white foam. It doesn't last very long, either.

S-The smell is a lovely mixture of lemon, spicy wheat, and doughy sweetness. It reminds me of spiced lemon cake. Nothing crazy here, but nice integration with solid flavors proves that sometimes simple is good.

T-The taste tracks the smell with mildly sweet bread dough, lemon, clove and white pepper spice, and a well-defined wheat bite. The flavors are not over-the-top, but this beer packs a lot of flavor.

M-The feel is pretty smooth with ultra-fine carbonation that lasts a while on the palate before tailing off.

O-This might be my favorite U.S. hefe, and one of the only U.S. hefes to compete with the Germans. It looks pretty close to correct, it smells pretty close to correct, and it tastes pretty close to correct. I thought the feel was a little strange, but not enough to detract from this great summertime beer.

Bottle has the numbers 3085116 50 on the neck and 052 13 C2 0559 S on the bottom of the bottle. Numbers people understand the meaning of would be nice for dating purposes.

Poured from the 12oz bottle into a hefeweizen glass from Dick's in LoDo Denver. Pours a yellow cream color, like banana and creamcicle mixture. Head is fairly large in size, about two fingers in size. Not much lacing present and as I mis the rest of the yeast with the beer, the head recedes.

Aroma is phenolic and clove-like. Very yeasty, lemon, not much banana if any at all. Slight bit or peppery spice.

Clean crisp flavors. The yeast and lemon are quite prevalent with some clove and coriander spice as well. The aftertaste is bready and yeasty.

A decent beer. The style is not my favorite. As mentioned in the style parameters, I think this would go great with a little slice of lemon for added flavor and acidity. Light bodied and refreshing, a great summertime beer. Overall, it was a little bland for me.

Great Hefe for the price point. Full of body and flavor, notes of banana, and fresh summer taste. I have been of a Hefe binge lately and I'm sad that I found this late in the game. Being from a bigger name brewer I did not think it would be a good as it is.

this is the perfect time of year for this crisp hefeweizen. the color of this beer is a nice cloudy golden that fades to a pale yellow. the smell is malty with citrus and spices. the taste is clean, allowing a lot of spiciness to come through. i tend to drink beers like this in the summer, but the flavor of this is so solid i would drink it year round- it is also a cheaper alternative to allagash white- or the local fair, westbrook white thai, (although the white thai does a little more zest.)

Hazy golden color with a two finger head with medium retention.
Nice aroma of wheat and floral hops, more like a regular Keller, but once the bottom yeast is poured you get some bananas and cloves. Likely not that fresh.
Refreshing taste of oranges, wheat and bananas. Notes of yeast and spices. Dry and astringent aftertaste.
Light body with good carbonation and a mild acid feeling.
Very pleasant beer, revealed more citric than average and not overly sweet which enhanced its drinkability.

Pours a completely opaque yellow with a white head.

The smell is sweet, cloves and pepper.

The taste is much the same as the smell, light with cloves and other spices.

The mouthfeel is light and refreshing.

This would be a nice hot weather session able beer, light but tasty.

A: Poured from a keg into a clear pint glass. Very cloudy, light yellowish/gold color with a good sized foamy white head.

S - Somewhat sweet earthy/bready smell. Bananas too?

T - It had that Sierra Nevada taste you expect from their beers, but it just didn't work for me in a Hefeweizen.

M - The beer looks unfiltered and fairly pale, so I expected it to be a little heavy. The cloudy beer proved to be lighter in my mouth than expected though.

O - A very interesting Hefeweizen. If you had not told me Sierra Nevada made this one I would of guessed it from the distinct flavor. Unfortunately I am not a fan of banana flavors, so this beer just wasn't for me. It is worth trying though.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A - Very cloudy yellowish orange with about 2 fingers of foamy white head that stuck around a little while. Good amount of carbonation bubbles streaming up.

S - Very solid hefe smell. Bananas, cloves, and some peppery spices.

T - Very similar to the nose. Banana up front with the cloves and spicy pepper on the back end.

M - Fairly creamy and light with a good amount of carbonation. Heavy enough that you probably wouldn't want to session this.

O - A solid hefeweizen. Sierra Nevada does some good work and this is no exception.

Hazy, straw colored, good head retention and better lacing characteristics than some imported hefes. Yeasty, phenolic aroma - well defined but not terribly engaging. Starts out quite chalky, then the other components come out. Clove first, then a bubblegum finish.

Flavor features a light malt backbone with a healthy dose of phenols. A bit lacking in the fruity, estery department - there's a banana note that's all too fleeting. Segues right to a light, crisp, pale malt base. Mouthfeel works well as there's a smooth, silky texture while still being well carbonated.

Hefe fans should keep an eye out for this as it's a solid, traditional interpretation of the style and likely to be fresher than imports on the shelves.

No shit, this beer is ridiculous.

It's as perfect a beer that I've seen on tap.

I could drink a LOT of this, and for once, wish I could.

The smell is to dream
The sight is to die
The feel is to swoon
The taste from on high
Barkeep take care
Pour her slow till she's dry

Truly a beautiful beer. On tap at HOOPS-N-HOPS in Simsbury, CT now.

Wow. Summer right up in your business. After the longest winter in MN history and the celebration of a new job, I picked up a 6er of this guy 'for the wife'. Tis means she has one and I finish it without feeling bad I didn't pick a RIS or double imperial pale ale.

Great pour. Cloudy yellow goodness with a strong head that stays thought the whole pint. Really enjoy the smell. Some spice, some sweetness. Spring/summer.

Great mouthfeel. Light and fresh. Nice carbonation.

Hefeweizen is a style I generally skip. This, I'd go back for.

Appearance
Poured into a pint glass. Beer pours a light-golden color with a bright, white head. Hazy with sediment.

Smell
Sweet, ripe bananas with slight citrus smell. Almost reminiscent of mangos.

Taste
Up-front bananas and then citrus, with a very slight, refreshing bitterness at the end.

Mouthfeel
This beer has moderate levels of carbonation with slight astringency, but somehow managed to make me feel like I was drinking velvet.

Overall
Light, fluffy, delicious. A well-balanced hefe that has a pleasing silkiness.

For whatever reason, I've completely overlooked this beer the past few years. Finally, I decided to give it a try this year. I'm an idiot for not doing this a long time ago.

A: Pours a cloudy burnt golden color with tons of visible carbonation in the glass. A nice, creamy white head settles to about 1/2 finger.

S: An awesome combo of banana and clove with some bready malt. A touch of earthiness in there as well.

T: Really nicely done here. An initial hit of clove and bready malt, followed by a nice, but not too sweet, dose of banana bread and wheat bread. Finish brings just a kiss of earthy hops and some orange peel. Prickly carbonation and a light and creamy mouthfeel. Not a whole lot about this I would change. This is a keeper.

Appearance: Slightly hazy light golden hue with about a two finger white head. Followed the directions on the bottle when pouring to get some of the yeast in there.

Aroma: Light clove and a bit of banana. Some esters from the yeast. Not all that aromatic but pleasing.

Taste: Pretty much watery wheat in the first half before giving the palate some clove spice and the signature banana flavor that makes this style memorable. The finish is definintely the high point of the flavor and has a nice crispness to it. The cloves linger in the aftertaste. One dimensional but refreshing all the same.

Mouthfeel: Between thin and medium in body with good effervescence. A bit prickly because of the spice but highly drinkable and even sessionable if you like the style.

Final Thoughts: Although Kellerweis won't blow your palate away with flavor, it is still a good beer to enjoy on a hot summer day or as an aperitif. Yet another well done beer by Sierra Nevada. It's a tad pedestrian but definitely still craft. Would I drink it again? Yes, summer has only just begun.

Sierra Nevada has done well with their Hefeweizen. Anyone who has had real a German hefe knows that it's tough to get a comparable version in the States. Sierra Nevada got this one right, from the taste to the color to the cloudiness. For you hefe lovers out there, you can't miss with Sierra Nevada's Kellerweis Hefeweizen.

Poured 3/4 in a pint glass swirled rest of contents in bottle and poured the rest in to get the sediment.

Appearance: 2 finger white foam head on top of a hazy yellow beer. Quite cloudy due to the sediment.

Smell: ripe banana, malty, tropical almost

Taste: malty and bitter up front followed by huge banana sweetness. Notes of vanilla, yeast, spice. I didn't taste much clove in this beer but it was noticeable. Very banana heavy. Quite refreshing

Mouthfeel: Smooth and velvety. Once I got used to the spicy bitterness up front, it went down really easily.

Overall: This is another great offering from SN. Great example of a Hefe. I could drink these all day. Very refreshing and great balance behind the very upfront banana flavor. Would definitely have again.
