A= whitish-yellow, reminded me of pouring grapefruit juice from a can. Very little head when poured slowly but it did stay around and clusted at the edges, fair lacing.

S= a true nose-full, lots of banana, coriander, spices.

T= bold on the spices and banana, coriander evident, with a rather biting tart finish that caught me off-guard.

M= a little tart and spicy.

D= if you like it, very drinkable. Otherwise you'll probably have trouble after the first gulp.

Appearance: The beer was poured into a DFH signature glass with a couple fingers of off-white head. The color was a rather hazy gold.

Smell: Starts off with a very honey aroma, but the cloves and banana really open up. The cloves really take over and its pretty much all just ester, yeasty goodness. I can smell a little bit of wheat aswell.

Taste: The taste is a really spicy sweet banana. You could definitely tell it was a wheat beer in the flavor. The finish is not very clean, in fact it is a rather yeast filled finish. There is a good bit of zest here and realistically it rounds out the taste perfectly. I am just very pleased with this beer.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is on the thinner side, but the carbonation makes up for it.

Drinkability: At 4.8% alcohol and with the mouthfeel it has, this has become my go to session beer. It's cheap, it's delicious, and it reminds me of an actually good German hefe. What more could you ask for?

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Pours a hazy lemon yellow with a 2-3 finger frothy head which dissipates quickly. Nice lacing throughout.

Smell: Hints of wheat and banana with a slight hint of citrus.

Taste: Nice spice flavor up front with hints of banana and just a bit of malt. Very mild bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. Crisp and very smooth.

Drinkability: Very drinkable which is saying something for me because I tend to shy away from wheat beers.

Overall: Excellent representation of the style. I would definitely recommend this.

12 oz. bottle bought at Shawan Liquors

Poured into a weizen glass, following pouring instructions on the side of the bottle. A moderate pour yields about two fingers of fluffy white head that holds up for some time before dying down a bit. Body is a deep, cloudy yellow.

The aroma is pretty bold; distinct banana and clove notes pop out.

Taste is somewhat spicy upfront, with a nice banana flavor that rounds things out midway. An ever-so-slight, spicy sort of bitterness comes through on the finish, but in a very subtle way.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and smooth; I find that a lot of American-style hefeweizens tend to be a bit watery, but this one has a very pleasant texture.

Good drinkability on this one, as I would have expected; this is a great hefeweizen for hot weather and cold weather alike.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

This is a great example of the style. It doesnt have that over the top banana and clove taste to it but its there. Great silky beer with nice citrus notes. Perfect carbonation and complete definition of a session beer. Nice low abv and full flavored beer which is hard to come by. Pick this up over your run of the mill hefeweizens. Its right up with with weihenstephan for sure if not better.

Pours a hazy light golden color with a fluffy white head that dissipates quickly but leaves lace all over.
Smells of clove, banana, phenol, and a restrained sweet honey malt deep underneath. Taste is more of the honey and sweet malts with some cloves and spice. Light body, medium carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Nice light easy drinking brew.

Rich, nose-filling aroma is wheaty and yeasty with just a hint of honey. It pours a hazy, appetizing amber with a fairly thick white head. Flavor is downright delicious, strongly wheaty with an undertone of yeast, a hint of citrus and just a whisper of honey sweetness. Texture is very tingly and pleasant. One of the best Hefeweizens I have ever had.

Poured into a hefe glass. Color was a hazy amber with a fair amount of carbonation rising from the bottom. It poured a thick white foamy head that dissapaited quickly, but clung to the sides well. Aroma was a bit hoppy, along with some banana and vanilla. Taste was very slightly sweet, reminded me a banana bread that wa a bit on the spicy side. Felt great in the mouth. Coated very well, nicely carbonated. Pleasant to drink, could do a few of them with not much problem.

Enjoyed in a pint glass. I'm prepared to like this after having Torpedo earlier this year.

A: Aggressive pour (with yeast rousal) yields 1.5 fingers of pillowy white head with great retention. Cloudy lemon gold liquid. Gorgeous.
S: Subdued clove spice, clean malt. Slight banana. Not very complex but pleasant.
T: Bright citrus draped over delightful sweet malt (not cloying) ends with a tart finish. Nice banana and clove emerges later. Wow! Full flavored, I daresay nearly as tasty as German examples.
M: Creamy and smooth. Light in body.
D: Perfect. I want more sips, more bottles, more sixers! Delectable and enticing. Upon subsequent trips to the liquor store, my eyes always seem to drift up to this beer.

Bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a cloudy/hazy golden honey color. Bright white two-finder thick head. Although others have mentioned good lacing, I didn't really get any at all - it would hang there for a second, and then drip back down. The head, on the other hand, lasted for the duration of the glass at about one-half finger thick.

The nose is excellent. Pleasant scents of banana, wheat, cloves and lemon. The taste reflects the nose of banana, wheat, cloves and lemon, and also adds a slight zesty spiciness. There's a mild aftertaste that lingers on the tongue, but it's light enough to avoid being unpleasant. Fairly creamy, and seems to be pretty light on carbonation.

Drinkability is excellent - the pleasant taste, light body and low ABV definitely lend a hand in making this a very quaffable brew. I could see the aftertaste or sweetness getting a bit in the way, though. In the end, I think I could easily session a number of these. Very enjoyable on the palate.

Impressive brew.

I had the opportunity to try a few SN beers while on a recent trip to DC. These are common in the US but significantly harder to find north of the border. I had the pleasure of drinking mine on a patio on a fall evening under the warmth of a patio heater at Pizzeria Paradiso and it all started with an excellent pour by the server.

He poured half the beer normally and then to my surprise swished the the rest of the beer around in the bottom of the bottle and violently dumped the remainder into the glass. The last time I saw a proper pour like that was over a decade ago in a small beer bar in Ottawa. I rarely buy hefeweizen's in bottle as we get them on tap in my area quite frequently.. so while it may be common to some, the pour was a nice surprise for me.

The beers attractive orange gold colour combined with a beaming white and cloudy head is a sight to behold. I was smitten and loved the gobs of lacing left behind. The smell is very representative of the style with oodles of clove and banana.

I found the beer itself to be a tasty blend of sweetness and banana but not over powering. It was balanced and enjoyable. The mouthfeel was refreshing and smooth with tiny pinpoint sized bubbles of carbonation.

Despite their refreshing nature I find hefe's a touch sweet for long term drinking and this one was in a similar vein. A pleasant find though.

A: Cloudy golden orange with active carbonation. Good sized foamy white head sticks around and leaves lots of lace.

S: Nice nose of cloves, wheat and lemon, plus a hint of banana

T: Dry and yeasty malts come through first, followed by a sharp clove and lemon laden bitterness that bites the tongue. A banana sweetness lingers in the background throughout the experience. Finishes very dry, with a lingering mild spicy bitterness.

M: Medium body is grainy. High level of carbonation is just right for this style.

D: I really like this beer. Relatively low ABV, plus the beer's overall lightness make it exceptionally drinkable. A very nicely done beer.

A: Pours a cloudy yellow/orange color. A huge frothy and rocky white head rises to over two fingers. Sticky spiderweb looking lace is left behind.
S: Yeast, lemon zest, banana, and spicy cloves. Floral, grassy, hay aromas. Really inviting.
T: Follows the nose. Banana and spicy clove is up front. Floral and grassy. A very soft, smooth, and subtle flavor that really works.
M/D: A little lighter body than I thought it would be. Medium carbonation, which I like. Very easy and smooth to drink. A refreshing sessionable beer.

I really like this. Lots of flavor. Not over carbonated which I like. To much prickly carbonation usually makes Hefeweizen's unappealing to me. This is very refreshing, and something I would recommend. One of the better American made versions.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy murky yellow with a large rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is lemon and some spicy yeast with a little floral soapiness.

The flavor is sweet lemon balanced by some earthy yeast with a touch of banana and some grassy bitterness at the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little watery.

Overall, wheats are not my favorite style, but I like this one. It's labeled a hefe but I get very little banana (which is good for me) and not a lot of spice - more of a Belgian wit to me. It's very pleasant and easy drinking.

Pours a honeyed gold with a decent white head that left some good lacing.

Great aromas here. Tons of sweet wheat, yeast, and bananas.

Great strong clean flavors. Sweet wheat, with yeastiness and some light bread elements, and a light tart finish. Clean, refreshing, and delicious.

Lighter bodied and decently carbonated. This one is a real easy drinker. Great domestic hefeweizen. Absolutely worth trying and revisiting.

12 oz bottle picked up in Buffalo.

Pours a cloudy dark golden, almost orange throughout, very thick slightly off white head forms, slowly settles down to a thick ring around the glass, good lacing. Smell is nice, very nice banana notes, very fresh and fruity, pineapple, tropical, wheat, sugary sweetness, yeast, a bit spicy, some cloves but tending towards banana. Taste is similar, lots of banana and tropical fruit, sweet middle, caramel and honey, biscuits, corn syrup, more banana, wheat and a bit yeasty, pretty sweet finish, more banana and tropical fruit juice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Maybe a bit heavy but a nice weiss.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a weizen glass.

Coloration is yellower than most other hefes I've seen. An upside-down pour gives it a big fluffy head that dissipates slowly. Lacing is quite present, with lots of bubbly threads clinging to the side of the glass. Smell has the typical fruity banana and spice scent, along with a definite wheat component and a big malty backbone.

Taste has an initial tinge of mild bitterness, which was something I wasn't expecting. It's by no means the dominant flavoring. It gives way to a big bubblegum snap along with the banana and clove. The back end has that characteristic hefe breadiness, but it's not as prevalent as others I've tried. Mouthfeel is medium bodied leaning towards the lightish side. Not the creamiest I've had, but it's still got a smoothness to it that's above average.

Again, as with most hefes, this offering from Sierra Nevada is quite drinkable, thanks to the lightness of the feel and the pleasantness of the flavoring. An interesting and unique take on the traditional German wheat beer from a reputable American brewery.

Pours a cloudy yellow with a small, wheat head. Beer seems to glow when held up to a light. Smell is of wheat and bananas. Taste is fruity, with lemons and other citrus as well as wheat. There was a little banana in the taste, but not as much as I expected after smelling the beer. This doesn't differ from the other top hefeweizens too much, but it is still a great hefeweizen that is easy to drink. This would be a great hot weather beer, but it is not too bad when it is chilly outside either.

When this was first released earlier this year, I was excited to see this new release from Sierra Nevada. For one reason or another, I did not make it around to picking some of it up until this week.

Poured into appropriate glassware for the style.
Appearance is a cloudy yellow with a two finger head.
Smell contains bananas, corn, and is light overall.
Taste has more of that fruit component, as well as wheat and yeast.
Mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing, very nice.
Drinkability is very good, a great session beer. I am very much satisfied with this offering from Sierra Nevada and glad that I finally picked it up. The season for it is pretty much over, but there is always next year. I would guess it will be on shelves again.

A thin white head with quickly disappearing spots of lace sits atop a beautiful, hazy, old gold body.

Metallic bananas and milled wheat come across on the nose.

Incredibly crisp, dusty wheat with few shavings of lemon essence.

I get a little thickness in the mouth that stays with me, which balances well with the crispness.

I picture drinking this beer on at dusk on a late summer day. Very satisfying. Too bad it's snowing and 20 degrees in October.

Cheers to you Sierra Nevada!! Is there a style of beer that you can't do?! I was a bit suspect buying a Weiss beer from them, but they came through.
Pour- Great Color, good head.
Smell- Cloves, banana's just how it's supposed to.
taste- refreshing, cloves, banana's, sweet. Just how it's supposed to.
MF- light w/ perfect carbonation

I used to buy the imports when it came to weiss beer, but I think I found my go to Micro. Good bye Franziskaner, Hello Kellerwies!!

Appearance and Smell:Poured a very hazy yellow, with some definite yeast particles present throughout. Left a nice frothy head which left a very nice lacing. Smelled of sweet, heavy, malty banana and light citrus with some herby bread like aromas.

Taste and Mouthfeel:Tasted of spiced banana bread with slight sweet citrus in the back, some earthy hop presence. Nothing harsh or biting, a very gentle beer. Very frothy, smooth feeling brew throughout. Not much ABV in this thing. Left a very sweet coating in the mouth.

Drinkability:Extremely tough to get sick of this thing. Nothing overwhelming in the least. Sweet, fluffy, hazy, drinkable brew. Could throw plenty of these back.

I am so glad that this is a regular part of the lineup for SN, no more American Pale Wheat Ales for us! Delicious clovey scent with a taste that is this crazy balance of sour and wheaten smoothness. Excellent balance in a brew that is tremendously easy to drink. This has become a regular staple for me, my current favorite hefe. Hooray for open fermentation at large scale breweries!
