12 oz bottle, poured into a snifter at 40 degrees F.

Appearance: Pours a hazy straw gold, with a thick white head with decent retention.

Smell: Floral and citrus, which is not at all what one wants to smell from a hefeweizen.

Taste: And as the smell indicates, my Wall O Hop sensitivity strikes. This tastes like compost pile runoff, no other flavors perceptible.

Mouthfeel: Light and effervescent.

Overall: This is in keeping with every Sierra Nevada experience I have had, with the exceptions of Narwhal and Tumbler. Please discontinue this. It is emphatically not an actual hefeweizen.

Pours a very hazy grapefruit color. A huge creamy head with lots of carbonation. A wonderful weizen smell. Banana, clove, spice. Very balanced taste. It is not as good as the Franzenkansers of the world, but good. The favors come together well. More crisp taste with a nice little bite finishing from hops.

Just about the best hefeweizen out there. Great banana and clove flavors.

Trying to rate to style. Really enjoyed this on a warm AZ day. Beautiful cloudiness, typical hefe aroma of spice/nanners and perfect carb.

Deep gold/orange in color with a thick, fluffy white head. Cloudy from adding the yeast sediment from the bottle. Strong, yet pleasant, banana and clove aroma. Soft on the palate, medium-light bodied, and effervescent. This one has all of the fruity, spicy, and refreshing qualities that I look for in a hefeweizen.

A notch below the best German versions of the style, but probably the best American version I have had to date. Purchase with conifidence if you are a hefeweizen lover.

I love Sierra Nevada and I love a good Hefeweizen, but I don't get this beer at all. It doesn't look, smell, taste or feel like a German Hefeweizen AT ALL.

Sierra Nevada has done it again. Not only do they have the quintessential pale ale, but now I think they have given the world a Hefeweizen that others can compare themselves to. Hat's off to they guys in Chico for another great beer.

After having a Hoegaarden (my personal favorite beer), we will see how another similar style stacks up.

It looks : Hazy yellow orange glow with a nice tightly knit three finger head.

It smells : Orange, banana, clove, cardamom, coriander, baked wheat. Just superb. There is also some faint metallic hop that slurs the perfect score a bit.

It tastes : it's a bit on the hoppy side for the style. The smooth wheat body is there and finishes strong with wheat, but in the middle is a slight off-putting bitter hop and orange peel. It doesn't quite balance. There's also clove and citrus, cilantro, malts.

Mouthfeel : very carbonated, yet still creamy and smooth within the style. Ends grainy and rich, slightly dry.

Overall : it is far from the best genuine Belgian and German beers, but I'll never turn down a Hefeweizen. This one was a bit too "Americanized" for me, but perhaps I'm just a wheat beer snob. Still worth a try, but doesn't touch the Franziskaner or Weihenstephaner offerings.

A - Foggy yellow-gold brew, white head, some significant lacing.

S - A bit funky, with a sour grain note, earthy, a touch of hay and grass.

T - The yeast is forward, with a strong grain element laying the foundation to fruit esters suggesting kiwi more than banana, and a strong minerality. Hops also present, adding a bit of bitterness on the close.

M - Crisp, clean and bright.

O - It is a rock solid Hefe, although a step below the standard set by the likes of Weihenstephaner. Without the explosive fruit esters, this is a study in restrained classical beauty, delicious, and a wonderful beer to pair with a variety of foods.

Hazy golden body and a thick voluminous white head.

Spicy clove heavy on the aroma. Banana and some wheatiness.

Flavor follows suit with spice in the forefront with banana and some crisp wheat in the back.

Oh ya the mouthfeel is great. Creamy and bubbly.

12 oz. bottle dated 1/9/15 poured into a nonic pint glass. Consumed and reviewed on Monday, February 23, 2015.

L: Pale gold hue with a frothy, two-finger, yeast-driven head. Poured the remaining yeast dregs out on top of the foam. Hazy appearance is very appealing.

S: Earthy, yeasty, banana esters, clove and spice phenols, some nutmeg.

T: An appetizing combination of fruity esters and spicy phenols – very refreshing. Banana, mild citrus notes, bready malts, pepper. Slight earthy hop presence on the back end. Delicious and complex for a Hefeweizen.

F: Medium body. Mouthfeel equipped with a creamy fullness. Effervescent and spritzy; medium-high carbonation.

O: Another well-done beer by Sierra Nevada. Sadly, I’ve been overlooking it since its release but not anymore. I’ll now gladly add Kellerweis to my “regular rotation” especially since SN’s large distribution footprint allows easy access to it fresh.

Thought this would be more of a summer beer, but this is so rich and complex, it's great by the fireside too

This beer was wonderful. I had it with some sushi and it paired very well. Not my usual choice of beer style but it fit with dinner. Maybe I'll give a few others a go.

Surprised at the color l and cloudiness of this beer. Nice orange color when poured into a tulip glass. Could not see through the beer, dense appearance. Liked the flavor very much. On the first sip it seemed coriander was leading the charge, but that changed quickly to a fruit/syrup taste on the front and a clove on the finish that was no overpowering. Very good stuff. Would revisit.

Very familiar for a heffe which is rare for an American brew using open fermentation. Sierra Nevada has never failed me. Good stuff. Banana, nutty, coriander...all the usual suspects present.

On tap in a traditional pint glass. Wonderful copper color with slow fading foam. Nice notes of toasted malts with coriander and very subtle hops. Very nice balance of spices and wheat cut with just enough citrus to create a beautiful taste from the begging of the end. Slightly hoppy at the back of the tongue to remind you it's brewed by Sierra Nevada. Medium mouth feel that isn't too watery to too heavy. I really like hefeweizens and this one of my favorite hefeweizens.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, yellowish/copper color with a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very aromatic with aromas of toasted malt, imparting notes of toasted bread and whole wheat crackers, followed by aromas of banana, clove, coriander and a touch of ginger. Very traditional in its aromas for a weissbier.

Taste: Nice flavors of toasted malt, and tropical fruit, such as banana and pineapple, followed by some spices of clove, black pepper, coriander, a touch of ginger. There’s some good candied sugar-like sweetness too.

Mouthfeel: Medium, medium/thin and pretty effervescent as there is some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 4.8%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: I’m not a huge fan of hefeweizen beers, actually, I’m not even a little fan of them. Usually they have way too much flavors of banana and a plastic-like Band-Aid smell and taste to them that I find very off-putting. That being said, this beer, while possessing a touch of banana, doesn’t go over-the-top with it and has none of the other flavors that I don’t like in most hefewiezen beers. I actually liked this one! Recommended for fans and non-fans of hefeweizen beers alike!
