Pours cloudy lemon yellow with small white head, smells of biscuity malts with strong yeast character, tastes of malts slight banana esters and yeast, mouthfeel is silky with low carbonation, and a lasting finish.

Poured 2/3 a 12oz bottle (bottled 07Aug14) into a weizen glass and swirled the beer around inside the glass. The remaining 1/3 was poured into the glass, per instructions on bottle.
LOOK: Pours with a finger's worth of white foam that halves within 20 seconds. Dull yellow in color with a remarkable amount of cloudiness. Only when held to the light, can I see that there is a moderate amount of rising bubbles. Lacing is practically absent.
SMELL: Has mild aromas of lemon, wheat, and that infamously sweet hefeweizen yeast along with subtle banana and clove aromas.
TASTE: Initial taste is of strong clove, banana, and sweet yeast flavors. Strong wheat along with mild lemon flavors enter immediately after as all initial flavors rapidly fade to mild. About 2 seconds pass as wheat flavors become mild and all other flavors drop to subtle. This results in a tasty, but weak final taste.
FEEL: Medium-bodied, moderately carbonated but goes down relatively smooth. The finish is nice and crisp.
NOTE: An outstanding beer. Just the strength of the flavors are lacking.

I have always loved the Bavarian hefe's. This is what you would expect in a Bavarian hefe, although the yeast strain is not quite exactly the same......but how? Still has a wonderful bready banana sticky lemony taste. Aahhh, quite tasty when you are in the mood.

Look: Very natural, moderate orange color body, crazy amount of head and foam retention, good amount of light coming through for an unfiltered beer

Smell: Light malt, possible caramel or toffee hints, no hop aroma at all

Taste: Delicious natural Hefeweizen taste, very large wheat flavor, slight bitterness on the finish

Feel: Nice thick foam, thin beer overall.

Overall: I liked this beer, I'm a big fan of wheat based beers, especially Hefeweizens and this one had a ton of great parts to it. Sierra Nevada made a great beer in this one. Between the foam and the natural taste, this is a nice refreshing beer for a hot summer day.

Overall too heavy tasting for a hefe. Really bready and malty and for the ABV it shouldn't feel heavy IMO. not a bad beer but when I think of a hefe this isn't what I want.

Highly impressed! Nice aroma. Banana bread in spades! Hazy yellow color, pure white head. You mustn't forget to swirl the bottle in order to get all that yummy sediment from the bottom! This one will have a permanent spot in my rotation. Well worth the coin!

Had from a 12oz bottle with a packaging date of 05/19/15. Purchased in Portland, OR

Surprisingly, it sports a hazy and completely opaque light peach/orange-colored body crested by a generous creamy head. Excellent head retention and nice lacing throughout.

Normally, I'm underwhelmed by American Hefes. However, this is not one of them. Classic aromas of orange and lemon citrus, banana, and clove right up front. Followed by warming aromas of banana bread, lemon meringue, and raspberry-caramel taffy.

A little watery on the palate. Could use a bit more carbonation. Nice acidity, but not overdone. Lingering finish of citrus zest, bitter herbs, and a touch of spice.

12 oz bottle

golden in color, bone white head. smells of wheat, but doesn't have the strong typical hefeweizen yeast flavors, which to me to good. same with the taste. cleaner, mild. easy drinking.

Pours a nice gold color with mild haze. I usually expect more haze form a hefeweizen, 1 finger head is white in color. Moderate amount of lacing but it vanishes quickly.

Nose is banana, wheat and lemony citrus.

Taste is more banana. Yeast notes next. Bread-like malt. Citrus on the back end. Both lemon and orange.

Nice medium body mouth feel. Crisp carbonation but not overpowering. Malt and yeast linger on the tongue.

An excellent beer that is perhaps the prime American example of this style.

12 oz bottle, bottled 3/27/15, in this year's summer pack. Poured into a Guinness style pint glass.

A - Pale, cloudy and yellowish hue, with orange accents. Pours to a thin lace.

S - Clove, banana, pepper

T - Follows the nose, with some bread and grains.

M - Carbonation seems a touch above average. The heft is medium light.

O - Great hefe, I normally don't drink many in this style, but fans of the style will want to give this a go.

Look: Luscious golden cloudy haze(especially if follow pouring instructions)

Smell: Sweet juicy citrus contrasted by banana bread yeasty goodness

Taste: Tastes just as it smells but with a slight natural wheat metallic taste...not too bitter at all being an ipa fan to the fullest. Just enough hop to counter sweetness.

Feel: Very refreshing medium bodied low abv beer...creamy thick head that dissipates within seconds, leaving a nice thin layer of white foam through out start to finish and great glass lacing.

Overall: Perfect as a session beer...definitely a must have if your a fan of German style brewing...Great job Sierra Nevada by showing your versatility in craft brewing.

Poured from 12oz brown glass bottle into Hefewiezen glass.

A: Very much like champagne, with a bolder, deeper yellow color. Very slightly cloudy. White frothy head with good retention and light lacing. No sediment.

S: Lemon flesh, green banana, vanilla. Bubblegum as the beer warms.

T: Banana, grass, citrus pith, a faint hint of black pepper or grains of paradise. Carbonation and a trace of clove carry the finish, clean and bright. The bubblegum on the nose as the beer warms joins the flavor palette at the same time.

M: Light and well carbonated without sacrificing smoothness.

D: An approachable and well executed hef, well suited to the summer heat and its cuisine. I've had a few of these out of the bottle and this beer is exceptionally well served by being put in a glass - the nose is subtle and almost all flavor is lost when you can't let scent reach you.

The best of the style by an American brewery IMO. Nice banana and clove notes without overwhelming the brew with too much clove flavor like some other breweries. Also has a pleasant sweetness to it. Banana pudding??

Not a giant fan of SN. This beer changes that a little.

This is all nitpicking, but there is a hoppy finish that I would not get from anything else that calls itself a Bavarian. And a smidgen of something that starts out as funk and settles out metallic in the smell. Oh and there is a ton of yeast in it. More than you want.

Still, I will enjoy drinking more of this.

Absolutely loved this and I'm not big on hefeweizens. But I think it's mostly because craft brew in the U.S. don't do it well.

L; Hazy gold yellow masterpiece.

S; Floral notes and banana

T: Banana with some citrus notes in there. Light orange but mostly banana. Delicious.

F: Nice and creamy.

O: I'm so glad the sampler I picked up was relatively fresh. A little more than a month old. I had heard this was a good one and it's completely changed my mind about hefeweizens. Now if only I can find the german ones fresh. If there's a good date on this, I won't hesitate to pick this up. Delicious.

Hefeweizen glass. Pkgd 3/27/15

Appearance: The first 3/4 of the bottle poured a pretty clear pale gold, then I shook the last 1/4 vigorously and poured, turning it hazy with an initially 3 finger eggshell head that turned to 1 finger. Still tons of sediment left in the bottom of the bottle. The little white cap retains very well, and the lacing is of otherworldly proportions.

Aroma: Bubblegum, citrus, artificial grape. Very yeasty. If you like the traditional Hefeweizen smell, this has it in spades. Many people say that smells like cloves, but I don't get clove at all.

Taste: Mildly sweet arrival, turns tart for a second, then clears the palate with a very mild bittering. That tart second is a little bitter orange with some green banana. Perhaps a little white grape or Riesling wine.

Mouthfeel: Heavier side of light, crisp, low carbonation. Lingering slickness is slightly unpleasant to me.

Overall: I am rarely in the mood for this style beer, but for when I am, this would be my #2 pick (so far, only Schneider-Weisse was better to me, but I haven't had many). This is my second bottle of Kellerweis, and this one was far better than the first. Extremely light and complex with a bold nose. 4.8% ABV is perfect for the style, I could drink these all day. Slickness and low hopping stops it from being what I would consider refreshing.

Had this poured into a pint glass. Color was how your want for a hefe, hazy straw yellow color. Flavor and aroma were actually a little bland in my opinion, none of that sweet banana flavor you usually look for, but a much smoother finish. Mouthfeel was very nice, smooth and almost chewy going down. Good stuff, but I think a touch overrated.

Very hazy straw colored with a 2 finger white head. A nice fermented wheat aroma with flora hops and a pinch of light citrus. Taste is similar with a nice floral hop profile, hints of citrus on the wheat base. Easy to drink lighter style that is very tasty.

A great gaze to it, and a nice wheaty aroma with a little bit of floral in it. Sierra Nevada made a great choice in putting this in summer sampler. It is a wonderfully refreshing wheat beer, with just the right balance of wheat and floral notes that never dominate.

Cloudy pale straw in color. The nose is typically funky. The wheat really comes out in the flavor profile. There is also a nice hint of lemon on the finish.

Appearance- Golden yellow and hazy. Pours a white, pillowy two to three finger head.

Aroma- Sweet citrus fruits, a little clove spice, and a sweet grainy wheat malt.

Taste- More on the citrusy side for a hefeweizen, with lemon combining very nicely with a banana fruit flavor. Mild clove spice flavor adds some bitterness. Wheat malt adds sweetness to the fruit flavors and dryness in the finish.

Feel- Medium bodied, medium/high carbonation, and very pleasant feel overall with a crisp yet creamy/chewy feel.

Overall- No doubt about it that is a world class hefeweizen. The feel is perfect with a creamy/chewy texture and the flavor combo of citrus/banana is nearly perfect. Maybe a tiny bit more characteristic clove spice would enhance this, but that's subjective and nitpicking. Can't always get some of the great german hefe's fresh, but I have no doubt this stacks up to the best of em. If this gets removed from the SN yearly lineup that will be a damn shame.

Finally, finally getting around to reviewing this one. Truly one of the ales I have left behind in my journey; having it several times and not getting those notes down. Part of the 2015 Summer mixed-12.

A- The stubby bottle reveals a rather hazy, golden brew into my slender, tall glass. A massive, three plus finger, creamy white head rises up with amazing retention. Very thick blankets of lace attach to the glass.

S- Bright, simple and clean. Bananas, yeast bread, oranges, lemon zest, clove and pink peppercorn come to mind right away. Pale pils grains and bready wheat provide a backing.

T- Quite a bit more bready and grainy than the aroma but the esters and phenols are still bright and certainly flavorful. Lightly tart lemon juice feel with banana, clove, very slight pepper, vanilla sweetness and a big bready finish.

MF- Creamy and silky consistency probably in part due to the wheat in the bill. Carbonation comes in high but is padded fully by the puffy feel.

Finds a great balance. The esters and phenols do not scream at you but are present in moderation with a great use of wheat in the flavor and body. I always admire an American brewery that can make a good wheat beer.

I love a good hefeweizen. This was an uninspiring attempt at best. All the classic hallmarks are there but barely noticeable. Banana and clove barely perceived , soft velvety creamy head missing entirely. You can only tell this is a hefeweizen by comparing it pale ales. What a disappointment.
