Poured out a hazy golden/light yellow color with a nice amount of head on it. Left quite a bit of lacing on the glass.

Aroma was wheat malts with a perfect balance of banana and cloves with an underlying aroma of bubblegum. It was very inviting.

Taste was soft and delicate but all the flavors stood out. Spicy banana begins at first with light cloves clashing at times with the banana. Some wheat grain can be tasted towards the later end. Pretty much the same as the nose.

Mouthfeel was light with the right amount of carbonation.

Hands down one of the best hefeweizen's made in the U.S. In all honestly, this beer can stand up to some of the German hefe's. (665 characters)

Appearance: The beer was poured into a DFH signature glass with a couple fingers of off-white head. The color was a rather hazy gold.

Smell: Starts off with a very honey aroma, but the cloves and banana really open up. The cloves really take over and its pretty much all just ester, yeasty goodness. I can smell a little bit of wheat aswell.

Taste: The taste is a really spicy sweet banana. You could definitely tell it was a wheat beer in the flavor. The finish is not very clean, in fact it is a rather yeast filled finish. There is a good bit of zest here and realistically it rounds out the taste perfectly. I am just very pleased with this beer.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is on the thinner side, but the carbonation makes up for it.

Drinkability: At 4.8% alcohol and with the mouthfeel it has, this has become my go to session beer. It's cheap, it's delicious, and it reminds me of an actually good German hefe. What more could you ask for? (948 characters)

Been wanting to pick up some of this since it came out. Beautiful day, rooftop, Santa Monica...ahh I love summer.

A- Poured as directed, swirling the final third then pouring into glass. Looks like a beauty. Although it has that haziness to it, it is a bright apricot yellow with about a 2 1/2 inch craggy foam cap that clings to the glass as it shrinks down.

S- Subtle dusty hay yeastiness white pepper and coriander. I don't get the banana I was expecting.

T- I get a combo of subtle summer stone fruit wrapped up with some wheaty sweetness that has a touch of a bitter blip at the end before the dry finish. This is really nice.

M- Smooth, mild body with crisp carbonation.

D- Oooooh I could drink these all summer. I love this beer and summer. What a great combo... and the rooftop view in Santa Monica doesn't hurt either. (832 characters)

When I think Hefeweizen, I think in German! But even though this is not German made, it is certainly an excellent Hefeweizen. The floral and fruity aroma is top notch. The taste is just right. There is little that can refresh better than one of these on your front porch on a hot summers day. This is one of my favorite go to's. (333 characters)

Appearance
Light butter yellow and cloudy; good white head

Smell
Soft, pleasant aroma of freshly baked bread, slight banana and spices

Taste & Mouthfeel
So smooth and balanced; nothing over-the-top banana or clive-wise, which I'm really appreciating; wonderful silky full texture; softly balanced flavors throughout though finishes nicely with just enough tartness; pleasing bready aftertaste

Overall
Sierra Nevada nails it again. I'm not a huge fan of this style, but this beer is really appealing to me. It's light and refreshing while managing to have a lot of depth of flavor. I think this could be a bigger gateway beer for newcomers than their pale ale. (663 characters)

A cloudy gold elixir this mighty fine brew,
with two inches of head my anticipation grew.

The foam releasing aromas so fine,
yeasty white pepper and clove so divine.

Funky phenols, lemon and banana peel,
a taste of this wheat beer I did thus steal.

A mild yeasty twang coupled with some light pepper spice,
crisp wheat that is thirst quenching and oh so nice.

Ample biscuit malts and bitterness only a kiss,
dry aftertaste and a hint of orange I could not miss.

A body in full with a mouth-coating texture like cream,
chewy and most enjoyable I do thus deem.

Overall a brew to drink back to back and enjoy all the same,
a positive review to solidify its fame. (665 characters)

Sampled from a 12oz bottle in a standard pint glass. Purchased at Lowes Foods in Apex, NC.

A - Straw colored and cloudy. A large, fluffy white head with good retention and decent lacing.

S - Lots of aroma dominated by bananas and cloves.

T - Lots of banana and spice in the start and a mild bitterness and a slight tartness in the finish. This is a very flavorful beer.

M - A creamy consistency with a nice moderate level of carbonation.

D - I've been looking forward to trying this beer and it didn't disappoint. It's got a lot of flavor, goes down easy and is very refreshing. And at 4.8%, it makes a nice summer session beer. (633 characters)

A: Pours a slightly hazed yellowish hue. Fluffy and creamy white head that yields strong retention throughout. Spotted lacing.

S: Aromas of pear, peach, and ginger. Even some citrus fruit undertones. Pleasant and balanced.

T: Honey soaked bananas with subtle lemon and spicy biscuit balance. Cloves and pinch of sweetness that adds to the refreshing quality.

M: Light and crisp.

D: Once again I'm impressed by the consistency, availability, quality, and price SN is putting out. Very drinkable and compliments dover sole fish tacos. (536 characters)

T- very crisp, a drinkable hefeweizen but less of the banana undertones that other have, complex, but has potential if aged.
M- very carbonated, refreshing
D- A great session, beer. I will def be reaching for this one again. I read that it is aged in open vats. Def check this one out (430 characters)

Appearance: Cloudy, sandy gold color with billowy white head that leaves ample lace on the glass.

Smell: Banana, caramel, faint briny aroma, citrus, hop spice.

Taste: Smooth creamy sweet malt, yeasty with some light hop bite midway, hint of pepper and clove, clean finish with some hop tickle lingering on your tongue.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, refreshing, perfect amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: excellent. Had a couple of sixers of these along with some Sierra Nevada Summerfest at our weekend BBQ. Perfect summer session drinking and great with BBQ food. (565 characters)

Pours a cloudy straw-like color, with a thick, pillowy, white colored head, that recedes to a creamy layer leaving lots of bubbly lace on the glass.

Cloves seem to predominate the aroma, although the banana esters are definitely present. Basically this smells mild and fruity. Quite refreshing, really.

I find the cloves to take center stage with the flavor of the beer as well, although the bananas aren't far behind. Aside from the typical flavors imparted by the yeast, I also detect a wheat sweetness, as well as a barely perceptible bitterness towards the end, certainly not enough to take away form the yeasty esters and wheat sweetness, but just enough to balance the overall flavor of the beer.

Pretty light bodied, but the carbonation is just right to not make it seem fizzy. I gotta be frank, this is one of the better hefes I've come across in quite a while, so crisp and refreshing. This totally lives up to the style and proves that Sierra Nevada knows more than just hops. (989 characters)

Pours a cloudy straw-yellow color with a big white head. Scent is somewhat spicy with hints of sweetness. A little bit of funk and lemon as well. I get some banana and maybe even a little bit of mint on top of it. Taste has a strong banana and clove backbone to it. It has a very delightful taste. The lemon zest sneaks through the strong banana a bit as well as the tasty spices. I also get some delicious notes of fresh bread. This beer is amazing for a hot summer day. The mouthfeel is near perfect. Not too light and a bit creamy. Very smooth. The drinkability is VERY HIGH. Great beer. (590 characters)

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Large, silky head with barely-visible vanilla swirls inside the golden orange liquid. The aroma of sweet spice and delicate orange strikes the nose. The taste is incredibly smooth and immediately transported me back to Munich drinking a Franziskaner in the dining car to the Swiss Alps. The hop taste is very subversive and lets the spice and fruit steal the show. The most flavorful Hefeweizen I've had in the US. (450 characters)

The label tells me how to properly pour this beer....which is a nice touch.

Pours a hazy golden straw color with a huge head that turns into a lingering presence throughout the consumption process.

Smells of bananas, cloves and bubble gum.

Great taste! Smooth and satisfying with a mellowing tart start as it hits the tastebuds and a mild bite on the finish.

The drinkability is off the charts as this is a great venture for the SN staff. Perfectly done and will make for a great summer brew. Also very pleased this is a regular on the circuit. (548 characters)

The taste is of smooth and soft with a slight banana flavor that really goes down well. A beer great for the summer that I could drink all day. Another great brew from Sierra Nevada. (340 characters)

A beautiful, cloudy gold, with a mountain of major bubbles.
Intricate, detailed lace. Simply a beautiful beer, yes.
Aroma is ripened fruit, spice, and clove -- appropriate for the style, and quite appealing.
The flavor is full, with plentiful notes of banana, pepper, and even a little orange. Absolutely a delicious and superior hefeweizen. (341 characters)

This beer was wonderful. I had it with some sushi and it paired very well. Not my usual choice of beer style but it fit with dinner. Maybe I'll give a few others a go. (167 characters)

Poured 12oz bottle into glass. 4.8% abv

Appearance- Pours a bright yellow with a lofty, thick head. Extremely cloudy/hazy.

Smell- Wheat aroma, very grainy, toasted bread. Some orange peel.

Taste- Sweat bready flavor, followed by crisp wheat and a little touch of honey. The banana bread flavor is evident later in the taste profile, where as it was not as evident in the nose. The banana-like sweetness follows through to a slightly bitter dry finish, still carrying along some of that wheat malt.

Mouthfeel- Medium in body with vibrant carbonation.

Overall- An exceptional hefeweizen! Very clean and crisp flavors make for a very refreshing beer. A must try, and a benchmard for this fine German style. (709 characters)

Appearance: Quite cloudy. Orangish yellow. A nice foam head quickly dissipates into a paper-thin top.
Smell: Banana and bubblegum.
Taste: Banana, bugglegum, and wheat. Some tartness.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation and smooth at the same time.

This is such an excellent Hefe. It certainly sets a great standard for this style. The banana hits you right away with the smell, and follows up with the same in the taste. The tartness and banana linger after the swallow. There's really nothing negative to be said. It has that traditional Hefe taste of banana and wheat, but pulls it off so well that it really sets itself apart from most of the rest. I would definitely get this again. (679 characters)

poured into weizen glass:

Pours clouded golden yellow with a fairly thick foamy white head that leaves strands of lacing.

The smell is of classic banana/clove. The bananais robust and the clove intermingles nicely.

The taste is banana is prominent. The sweet bubblegum, and hint of bubblegum, is balanced by spicy clove. It has a refreshing, semi-dry finish. The banana/clove remains on the palate through the finish.

It is crisp, velvety/creamy smooth.

This isn't an American Wheat called a HW, but one true to style - and it nails it. Great banana with a spicy, clove balance. Appropriate light-bodied, but not watery at all. I would believe this to have been one of Bavaria's better examples of style, had I not known better. SN has a real winner here! (760 characters)

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a wheat glass.

The color is a hazy orange with a slight yellowish hue. about two fingers of white foamy head and some nice lacing.

The smell is slightly fruity with a hint of bananas and some slight citrus flavors.

The taste is sweet with some wheat flavor mixed with some clove and citrus flavors. There is a bit of tangy flavor in the background that is ever so slight but give this beer a great fruit flavor that remains for a bit.

The feel of this beer is pretty light and goes down easy. Is one of the better beers I've had in the lower ABV range. This may be my new session beer. (621 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a hefeweizen glass. Poured into the glass a opalescent gold color, swirled the yeast and then added to the glass which produced a cloudy deep gold, the same color as the label. Lots of head that dissipates with little lacing. The nose is lots of bannana, lots of coriander, all fruit, very wheaty. The taste is all that is promised with pure wheaty flavor, lots of bannana, and good spice of coriander. Palate is very creamy with a good finish that lasts. Very easy drinking, very sessionable. Tasty SN offering and true to style. (556 characters)

The nose on this is a very sweet yeasty smell. Cloudy, like a Hefe should be, but not overly so. Nice carbonation makes a nice foamy head. This is, by far, the best Hefe I have had in my short experience as a beer connoisseur. Great taste. Could drink multiples of these. (271 characters)

Almost perfectly executed Hef:

Cloudy, although only slight head retention. The smells were all there; floral, banana, spice. The slight aroma of sweet malt. A medium-intense aroma.

The flavor is one of sweetness and mild biterness. Character is perfectly balanced with fruitiness and hoppiness. Nothing is off the mark on this smooth and creamy hef, although better head retention would be ideal.

Great job Sierra Nevada! (425 characters)
