A: Pours a golden-yellow color with a fizzy-ish white head that settles relatively quickly. Spotty patches of lace and weak head retention.
S: Aromas of toasted grain, grassiness, and spice predominate, along with a honey-like malt aroma. Yellow apples are also present with warming. The smell has all the requisite elements of a standard helles beer, but with more intensity.
T&M: Grainy and spicy up front, with a healthy dose of what tastes like pilsner and Munich malt. Mineral-like flavors take a back seat and provide an interesting complement to the malt. Some dry apple comes on mid palate, before finishing with a light dusting of herbal hop flavor. Well balanced and smooths out well as it warms. Body is medium with a heavy-ish carbonation level.
D: It's big for a pale beer, but still decently enjoyable. I'm a little bummed that this is what's replacing the ESB, but I am happy to see Sierra Nevada branching out into new styles with this beer and Kellerweis. Glissade is stuck in the middle between being a lighter helles bock and a biggish maibock.
