Pours into a stein with a solid 6 inches of foamy head. The first 2 dissipate quickly, the next 2 take about a minute, and the last 2 hold on for dear life. It definitely lives up to the "golden" part of its name. Nice looking beer.
Smell is not strong, either out of the bottle or the glass. All I can detect is sort of a generic "this is beer" aroma.
Taste, on the other hand, is excellent. At first, it's like taking a bit of a really flavorful piece of bread (and with that head, you pretty much can take a bite out of it.) The alcohol is present, but balanced by a nice sweetness. My only complaint is that it has some hoppiness, but it's concentrated in the foam - the beer itself lacks that flavor, leaving it predominantly sweet. If the whole beer tasted like the foam, it would be truly remarkable.
The sweetness is a bit cloying, which hurts mouthfeel a bit. Drinkability has nothing to recommend it one way or another.
All told, this beer is on the edge of greatness, but doesn't quite seal the deal. It's quite enjoyable, but it coulda been a contender.
