Sierra Nevada Glissade is ordinary and macro-like.
It poured clear straw with a massive bubbly white head that quickly dissipated. It left a clear glass. The smell and taste were sweet, malty, and slightly acidic. The feel was weak but it was smooth and refreshing.
Lately, macro-breweries have tried to dabble in craft-like ales, and it never quite works. Far more mystifying are beers such as Glissade, which seem to be a micro-brewery's foray into the world of the adjunct lager. I tried to savor Glissade as I typically enjoy craft beer, slowly and as an experience unto itself, but that didn't work. In fact, I kicked myself for buying a six-pack. I then broke open a salty snack, something I never do with a beer I want to savor, and it was far more enjoyable. I did one other thing I never do: I drank Glissade numbers three through six from the bottle. It was better this way. A honey-like quality came through and I enjoyed those last three beers. I guess there's a place for beer that's good from the bottle and goes well with food.
