Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint.
Appearance: Pours pure golden-amber and perfectly transparent. Beautiful carbonation and a huge head that leaves clouds of lacing along the side of the glass.
Smell: Grassy, citrus, maybe a little pine mixed in from the hops.
Taste: A very up-front sweetness that slowly diminishes to a hoppy bite of bitterness. The overwhelming trait is the sweetness - much more than I expected. A twinge of honey in the taste.
Mouthfeel: Lots of carbonation. Medium feel. Pretty crisp.
Drinkability: Very drinkable - epecially considering it's a bock. Goes down easy at first, but gets more cloying as you near the end of the glass. Certainly not a session beer! Not a beer that really trips my trigger. I'm not a huge fan of the golden bock style though. I prefer darker bocks. It's a little too sweet and cloying for me. However, it's pretty good for the style and I would definitely recommend it to those wanting a nice example of a Helles Bock.
