The 12oz bottle was part of the Sierra Nevada Best of Beer Camp Variety Case. Enjoyed with my buddy and fellow BA member Pat (BeerConnoiseur) at a Memorial Day picnic.
Enjoyed in a DFH Signature Glass
A - Pours a very dark, almost opaque, black color. One finger, beige colored head on the intial pour. Good lacing on the glass.
S - After the beer warms up a bit, I get a nice roasted malt aroma.
T - Very interesting taste. The initial taste is that of an IPA with citrus and sweet undertones that gives way to a roasted malt flavor. The piney taste of the juniper is also there but not very pronounced. A slightly bitter aftertaste. The alcohol is well disguised but you can taste it by the time the beer warms up completely.
M - A nicely carbonated beer. The mouthfeel is on the heavier side.
O - I really liked this beer. A beer that is well crafted and could easily become a favorite if bottled by itself. I was impressed with this beer and look forward to trying the other Beer Camp beers from the case.

On tap at Toronado in San Diego, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, citrus zest, and slight juniper berry. Taste is much the same with a cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is interesting but isn't as juniper forward as I was expecting.
