I thought this was the most intriguing/original of the Beer Camp selections and since this is my last bottle, I'ma re-view et.
This is a godly looking beer. Mellow, stout-like head adorning a nearly black, medium thick body tending toward bright garnet on a lighted swirl. The head sticks around for a while and just looks fantastic.
Mostly roasted malts up front. You would probably mistake this for a porter or a stout if you weren't looking for pine or herbal notes. Those are definitely there, bringing up the bitterness factor on this beer significantly. The occasional whiff of hops is present as well, which also moves this away from sweet and malty to herbal and refreshing.
This is actually very hoppy. There is a sweetness to it but what is only hinted at in the smell comes across quite strong flavor-wise. Combined with the aromas I'm getting the sensation of an IPA poured into a Stout. Yeah definitely some herbal essences.
Mouthfeel is similarly mixed, but definitely much thicker than it looks. Chew on that.
Overall the damn descriptor scores should be averaged out into a total. "Overall" is the stupidest damn qualifier of a beer review I have ever heard of. "Hmmm well I think everything is SHIT but overall... It's Great!" Alright no offense Bros. I'll give you your overall. Yeah, right in the f***ing little box it goes.
Great job SN on releases like this. I wouldn't break my back looking for this beer like I would for say, Abacus, but I would definitely buy it in a case as commendable as a Beer Camp release. A+ on that.

On tap at Toronado in San Diego, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, citrus zest, and slight juniper berry. Taste is much the same with a cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is interesting but isn't as juniper forward as I was expecting.
