Inky blackness. Soft and small standing crown of dull tan foam sits well. Lots of thinnly placed sheets of lace coat the glass immensely.
Pretty heavy aroma of burnt hops and black tea with some touches of heavy roasted malts. Notes of the juniper berry sweetness float around from sniff to sniff.
Nice taster, moderately biting tones merge together to form a unique taste bond of burntess and blackened things. Crunchy, brittle, bitter, slightly burnt hops, heavy roasted malt and burnt malt, scorched earth, blackened wood, and faint smoldering juniper berry. Has s nice complexity to it and without going over the edge and getting overtly heavy-handed. Strong finisher too as it lingers with a nice burnt hoppy roastyness.
Medium body with a medium carbonation that lowers as it warms. It has some slight smoothing of sweetness from the juniper berry that is removed quickly by its overall heavy roasted maltyness and lingering bitter hoppyness that within itself has its own unique burntness.
Very likeable, drinkable, enjoyable, and West Coast all the way. Really diggin' the Beer Camp series SN. YUM!

On tap at Toronado in San Diego, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, citrus zest, and slight juniper berry. Taste is much the same with a cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is interesting but isn't as juniper forward as I was expecting.
