Pours a beautiful copper with more of a film than a head, but some nice lacing.
The aroma is quite minimal when compared to the flavor. Some bitter pine comes through, and some slightly floral notes. After popping the cap I didn't detect anything, and after pouring it into a glass and shoving my nose into it, it had a faint presence.
The flavor is definitely more formidable than the appearance and aroma. The first thing I notice is how easy it drinks, especially considering that it's a 10.4% DIPA. The second thing that comes to mind is that it has a nice follow-through and while bitter, it does seem to have subtle malt balance. The aftertaste is considerably more bitter than the initial sip. While the hops are potent, and the beer is bold which I enjoy, it does seem a bit muddled and lacks a cleanliness and finesse that some other DIPAs offer. It's still quite enjoyable though.
The mouthfeel is medium heavy and medium full. The finish is considerably dry and somewhat sticky. Carbonation is appropriate to fill the body out without becoming too sharp.
Overall, this was a cool beer to try, and it definitely delivers in terms of bitterness and punch that I expect from a DIPA, but I didn't feel that it was refined enough to be repurchased.
