This beer was great - but oddly enough seemed like more of a showcase of malt flavors.
A - Rich orange with nice voluptuous head.
S - Deeply sweet malt with an evergreen sharp piney note from the hops
T - Favors the malt more than the hops imo. At first sip, it just explodes with juicy sweetness of fresh barley. The hops seem to play a background role and seem only noticeable on the backside of the palette. The malty notes quickly subside and a very elegant pine flavor comes to the forefront which dries it out. Remarkable how intense the malt flavor is without being cloying and the hops I think are what do it. And for such a high abv, the alcohol is very finely woven into the beer - almost unnoticeable fumyness.
M- hedonistic full-bodied experience.
D - I rate drinkability low because this beer is crazy strong and quite pricey. (it says 10% but I suspect its higher). I was drunk after one bottle, and i drink craft brews very regularly (and the kind of drunk where it hits you all at once well after finishing the bottle). The drunken feeling reminded me almost exactly of Dogfish's 120min IPA - unique feeling which is weird but true. Not all beers get me the same way.

(bottled 04/17/14 - purchased chilled - poured into a balloon)
A: ice-cream-orange colored liquid, bit of a haze... tall, open-structured, spongy foam - 2 finger high, lasts a good while... broad spreads of webby lace... cool bottle label - dude looks like his head is a hop/artichoke hybrid
S: orange marmalade, fresh oregano... hints of pine, wildflowers, black pepper, hard candy...real resinous hops
T: sharp, spicy citrus with a potent hit of alcohol drenched in flowery hops, delicate lightly-toasted pale and crystal malt in the finish... very clean... initially, very soft edges and punch to the bitterness... mix of yellow grapefruit, lemon, orange, and caramelized candy sugar... the spice has a sweet-hot pepper quality to it
M: compact, a touch slick, but ultimately wonderfully light and clean... the resins lend an almost slippery-glossy latex flow... about light-medium bodied, finishes light and somewhat dry... resins want to smear, but the alcohol does a nice job lifting them away
O: happened to swing by the brewery on a NW trip last year the very day and hour Hoptimum was released for the season - had it on tap, enjoying it and chatting with two members of the local homebrew club - pretty damn fresh and tasty then - this wasn't terribly far off from that, even with 3 months on it... funny, it surely tastes like a SN brew - like a triple SN Pale Ale, er something... I'd like to have another, but I gotta go to work in a few... love them whole cones!!
