Notes/Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Aroma: Nice bold dose of American hops, ruby red grapefruit, resinous and grassy. Not much pine. Mild alcohol. Sweet crisp pale malts. Smells similar to Bell's Hopslam (that's definitely a good thing!).

Appearance: High clarity, gold in color. Lots of bubbles rising steadily to the top of the glass. Head is white and medium height. Good retention, leaves a thin layer of creamy foam.

Taste: Huge, nearly harsh floral resinous hops. A good bit of pine. Bitter grapefruit. Some sweet malt, but not much sweet citrus. While still cold, some moderate caramel and orange citrus sweetness is present.

Mouthfeel: Light body. Mild to moderate carbonation. Finishes slightly dry. Slight warming.

Overall: So bold, best served very cold. Lots of pine, much more bitter than sweet.

Another great hoppy beer from Sierra Nevada. Pours a clear coppery/orange color with a big white head and thick lacing. Head retention is good for a 10% plus beer.

Aroma is very good, citrus hops and some piney hops.

Taste is outstanding, citrus hops (grapefruit and tropical fruit), piney hops and sweet malts for balance. Balance here is BIG hops smoothed out with some sweet caramel malts. The 10.4% alcohol is totally masked. Could be drinking a Celebration or Torpedo as far as alcohol taste is concerned.

Mouthfeel is crisp and rich. The bitterness is just right for a big American DIPA. No alcohol burn. Balance between bitterness and sweet malts is just right.

An outstanding DIPA.

Sierra Nevada continues to impress me with the quality of the bers they produce at the price point at which they sell. Hoptimum delivers a beer full with hop flavor on par with the far more expensive and harder find beers such as Bell's Hopsland and The Oracle and as enjoyable as the hopheads Holy Grail DFH 120.

My girlfriend described Hoptimum as hops on steroids. Great beer and can't beat the quality at this price. Would have a greater aura if it was more expensive or harder to find, but for me it was all about the beer.

a clear orange/amber pour with 2 fingers of fluffy off-white head, great lacing. smells of honey, grass, pine, maple, grapefruit. a very hop heavy initial sweet taste followed by an earthly bitterness. grapefruit, dirt, pine, honey. medium bodied but heavy. creamy on the roof but nicely carbonated and sweet on the palate. a great sipper.

a bit bitter even out by malt nicely. mainly a hop bomb, though it has it's flavorful sweetness of honey-caramel... with a name like hoptimum, what else could i expect?

Holy swinging monkeys, Sierra Nevada-Hoptimum is mind blowing, tropical fruit explo and the blend of tartness with sweetness is crazy good. The mouthfeel is almost tingly. And fruit floavors are super abundent, I'd need to be more sober to describe them all in writing. Serious contender for the DIPA King award, it rivals Hopslam an d the ilk.

Pours a transparent copper body with lively bubbles of carbonation dancing to the antique white head that eventually gives way to a consistent sticky lacing that clings to the glass.

Abundant citrus and pine hop aromas float from the glass with.

The palate also offers big piney hops with sweet citrus, a hearty malt backbone and becoming spicy as it warms.

Medium to full in body with medium carbonation and a drying finish.

This is a hearty DIPA. It can kill the palate a bit but offers a nice variety of hop characteristics.

Brilliant deep gold with two finger white head. Great retention.Lace everywhere.

Nice blend of citrus, overripe pineapple, dank, and some pine. Nothing really stands out above the others, but it is a potent mix. Could smell it as soon as I cracked the bottle.

Flavor is dominated by citrus, with the tropical fruit notes playing back-up. A quick lash of some caramel, then a fruity boozy wash reminds you of the ABV, then an intense, lingering bitter finish.

Medium bodied, good carb. A touch sticky.

I bought this purely because I haven't had a good hop fix in a while, and this supplied it and then some.

Fresh off the truck from the Biergarten. Thanks Freddy!
12oz. served into a snifter glass.

A - Golden orange with a hefty white head that stays through the entire session.

S - Wow! Smells very fresh, floral, leafy green, sweet grapefruit, pineapple, green pine resin, mild onion,

T - Dense perfume hops, sweet mango, cantaloupe, tangarine, grapefruit, intense pine resin, all backed by candy like sweet malt. The finish is provides a ridiculously long bitter finish.

M - Smooth thick feel with moderate creamy carbonation.

If you like hops, this is your dream come true. I've had insanely hoppy beers in the past but none come close to pulling the aroma, bitterness, juicy flavor, and balanced malt that this perfect beer provides.
As I rate this I find myself going back to every IIPA that I've tasted trying to find a better candidate...but I can't.

A: Nice and light. Head is very large and remains for a good amount of time.
S: Very floral with hints of sweetness. Can you be allergic to beer? After smelling this guy I can't stop sneezing. But I digress...
T: Pretty solid. A good amount of spice and floral notes really come through especially on the finish.
M: This is really where this beer shines. This has the creamy texture of a nitro beer. Sits bubbly and extremely smooth. Goes down great.

Overall a very nice beer. The taste is certainly above average in terms of other IPA but the mouth feel is where this beer really shines through. Seems like a great beer for any occasion.

Forgot I had this left over from a pick-six...poured it into a pint glass and enjoyed.

Head not too thick, but lacing still hanging around awhile as I drink.

Hops in the nose, in the front, in the middle and down the chute. But not to the point that I tasted nothing else. I was surprised by the sweetness, at least at the beginning. Smelled like citrus and pine, but like an earlier reviewer said, there was some other fruit in there too.

Felt thick in my mouth, kind of like their Bigfoot Barleywine. Bitterness lingered on for awhile. Completely refreshing.

A hop-head, I love this thing. Enjoying the whole beloved thing.
