Notes/Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Wow... I forgot how much of a "Palate Wrecker" this beer is!

It is delicious.
It smells absolutely wonderful
The taste blasts your mouth with pure unadulterated hops!
I am left speechless even though I've had this drink before...

I used to be a hardcore "HopHead", but after having been weaned off hops, coming back to this beer has given me a new appreciation for the one-dimensional bitterness I love in a hoppy beer! One sip will leave you thinking that this beer is not designed to be paired with any other food or drink. Anything you match it with, may it be cheese or meat, this beer will "Steal the Show"

Heavy Piney... Heavy Floral...
Lingering bitterness! Let it be your last drink. It will stay in your mouth ALL NIGHT LONG!

Overall, it is a hophead's wet dream... Just amazing and beyond description.

Great beer if you want your mouth to reminisce of only the pure joy of hop bliss...

Appearance-Three finger white head. Bright orange/amber color.

Smell-Sweet malts, boozy, and tropical fruit.

Taste-Sweet and malty are the first two things that stick out to me. Hops give a tropical flavor, mango, pineapple, and some grapefruit. Initially this has some big bitterness, but as it warms up the malt presence subdues the bitterness significantly. Some slight alcohol heat.

Mouthfeel- Full bodied and some stickiness especially as it warms up.

Overall-A great dipa and at a very good price tag. On the sweeter side and I think that comes more from the malt than any fruit hop characteristics.

Confirmed: Sierra Nevada continues to amaze.

Pours a thick, syrupy nectar. Smell is really something: heavy hops, fruit, and alcohol. Yeah, this is a DIPA alright. Sticks to the tongue as syrupy as the pour. Nice, spicy lingering hoppiness. If it weren't for the sweetness that is characteristic of most DIPA's, I'd never know that this is a 10.4 ABV.

Enjoyed a pint on tap at Falling Rock in Denver.

A: Hazy orange copper with one finger of off-white foamy head. Retention isn't great but lacing is.

S: Hits the nose with hop oils, citrus, and some pine, with a subtle fresh bready malt toward the end. All the aromas are in the head of this beer...once the head fades, which happens quickly, it gives off nothing.

T: Delicious. Starts with a grapefruit-like citrus that gives way to an extremely mild malt backbone - perhaps too mild. Finishes with a hoppy bitterness, which lingers with a nice alcoholic bite.

M: Crisp and clean with the alcohol evident only at the end. Ever so slightly resinous. Low on the carbonation, which is nice.

O: A solid DIPA but not as killer as some make it out to be. It's pretty well described in the name, but I don't think a hop fad should make it OK to dismiss the malt backbone a beer of this caliber really should have.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter

Pours a deep, glowing orange-gold with one finger of dense off-white head. Maintains a thin cap with plenty of sticky, oily lacing. Gorgeous. The nose makes no attempt to disguise the impending assault on your palate. Not a strong aroma per se, but certainly a very serious one. Intense, sharp grassy pine surrounded by a mixture of citrus peel, toasted malts, and a strong grain alcohol-like presence.

The taste delivers on the promised intensity. Bitterness of concentrated pine resin, dank grassiness, slightly juicy citrus, and some floral notes. Malts come through as vaguely caramel-like at first, then bring a burnt grain character. Finishes very dry with a lingering piney bitterness and noticeable alcohol heat. Medium-bodied with fairly lively carbonation and a full, sticky texture that's quite impressive, given the dry finish.

This is a unique DIPA that took me a while to wrap my head around. I drank a bottle on 3 consecutive days before I could really decide how much I liked it. It's a big, strong brew designed with true hopheads in mind. Admittedly, I prefer my DIPA's with a bit more tropical fruit and citrus, but I can see how some would go nuts for this one.

The beer was a slightly hazy copper color with a big, fluffy, off-white head. My pour was a little bit too vigorous and the beer ended up overflowing. Left some big sticky lacing on the glass.

Citrus, grass, and resinous hops. There is a little bit of a malt profile, but I can't get more than a little bit of caramel.

There is a nice malty backbone that hits you up front, but then the rest is all hops. Pineapple, lemon, grass and earthiness is the general hop profile. There is a lingering hop bitterness, but overall, it finishes clean.

Pretty bubbly throughout. Medium bodied. A pretty slick finish.

Thoroughly enjoyable and very well balanced. The lack of super-complexity was a plus for me, but I didn't dig the oily finish. Beer was still bangin'. I can't think of anything from SN that I didn't like, and this is another hit. Try it!

Pours amber from the oversized bomber into my SN hop leaf glass. Thin white head forms and lingers for the life of the beer.

Big hoppy smells in the nose. Spicy, piny, fruity, citrus, this runs the gambit of hop smells. Just the kind of smell I want in a DIPA

Taste is predictably hoppy. This one is kind of weird in that the sweet caramel malt is what you taste initially but quickly your palate is assaulted with hops. The fruity hops dominate the flavor, but plenty of citrus and pine as well.

Mouthfeel is amazing with this beer. Tons of hop resin coats your palate after each sip. A solid amount of bitterness leaves your tongue tingling as well. The ABV is very well hidden in the taste. Goes down really well for a 10 percenter but it becomes a sipper quite fast.

Overall a great beer from Sierra Nevada. I hate making comparisons to other beers in my reviews but this tastes a lot like Celebration and Torpedo combined and then turbocharged.
