Notes/Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

A - Beautiful copper, orange color. Strongly translucent, with about a finger and a half of white head (after a turbulent pour). Head quickly fades to a thin line; lacing coats the glass evenly and nicely. Tons of carbonation visible.

S - Pine? Hops? Yes, and yes. Think SNPA, but stronger. A definite hint of citrus, slightly overpowering the floral notes.

T - Instantly, the thick sweetness is clearly obvious. This is followed by the bitters (it is 100 IBU, after all), and then another fruity, tangy sweet wave. Finally, there is a bit of a malty finish. The overall sweetness of this brew actually masks the individual hoppy flavors, but I can detect a bit of grapefruit and orange peel. Lingering aftertaste is a little dull and bitter.

M - Thick and tongue-coating. The flavors wash over in waves, with a lingering aftertaste. For a 10+% ABV, you don't notice it, except for perhaps a slight warmth coming from the throat. Wonderful feel, really, on par with the best quads and dubbels I've had.

O - This is an intensely sweet DIPA, more so than Enjoy By. For something that is supposed to be extremely, ridiculously hopped - and it is - you don't notice that so much. Yes, it's a fresh, cleansing, bitter brew, but the sweetness is overpowering at times. I like that the malts are very subdued, but some balance between the sweetness and the hops would make this better.

...I think I just stated that I'd prefer Hoptimum to be MORE hop-forward. Wowzers. Regardless, this is an overall great beer, very drinkable (and potent), very tasty.

poured into stone ris glass gave two fingers of an off white head. smells of dank resinous hops with pine , tangerines and little marmalade aromas. taste follows the nose well with a big piney bitterness up front, followed by a huge resinous grapefruit/marmalade flavor that develops into a sweet bready malt character. long dry hoppy finish that lingers. overall a great double ipa especially for the money. another great value for the money from sn, and at 10.4 abv it's a steal for a 4 pack
