Notes/Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

12oz bottle purchased at Jim’s Homebrew in Spokane for $2.69. No specific freshness date, but the neck label has “2012” prominently printed on it.

Clear amber in color with lots of bubbles arcing skyward. Big, bubbly beige head that took it’s time dropping. Lots of spotty lace.

Very citrusy in the nose. There’s some piney elements as well, but they don’t stand out nearly as much as the grapefruity scents. Tiny biscuity malt notes cower deep in the background.

Big hop smeck to the tastebuds, but it’s a sweet, citrusy smack for the most part. People looking for a super-bitter, tooth enamel burning hop character may feel slighted.

Medium bodied, with a coating, prickly yet sticky mouthfeel.

A pretty good DIPA, one the does not let on it’s packing a 10+ abv punch. Tasty, but for that reason I think I’ll stick to one per session.

A- Clear amber color. Huge head that stays.

S- Wow! Smells like fresh hops, I have no idea how they did that.

T- Yes it's an IIPA, yes it's still balanced. Really impressive how the malts back up the huge hop bill.

M- Nothing wrong here, nothing particularly amazing either.

O- SN knows how to do IPAs. This one is a marvelous example of that.

12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip, pours a gorgeous clear copper orange color with 1/2" white head that quickly reduces to a nice ring with minimal cap, spectacular lacing to the bitter end!

Smells so damn good, you could smell this one from across the room wondering who lit what! Hops, pine resin, grapefruit with a little bit of alcohol.

Tastes like a dream - crisp bitter hops, grapefruit rinds, pine resin, grassy earthiness, fresh tangy citrus with a slight malty backbone to balance it out, some booze but not much for 10.4%.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, drying bitter finish that is so crisp and clean, makes me grit my teeth and grin!

Overall - WOW such a magnificent balance that makes me want more until I have to go to sleep! Highly recommended.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a DFH snifter

A-Beautiful orange, nice pillowy head with lacing

S-Off the hizzle, pine, citrus, hop deliciousness

T-Everything is here in nice balance, this is a keeper

M-if DFH 90 minute is my gold standard for mouth when it comes to DIPA, this is the only place that it falls a little short

O-Awesome, SN is my favorite brewer for a reason

A bright, inviting golden color. Pretty much transparent. Robust pure white head forms, good retention.

I could already smell it a foot away from my head as I poured it into the glass. Pine, citrus (+ another sweet fruit I can't quite place), and herbs. Fresh.

The sweetness is still in the flavor, but it tastes more hempy than the nose let on. Slight alcoholic bite at the end but not as much as I expected.

Mouthfeel is probably this beer's weakest point. While it is surprisingly drinkable for a DIPA, it feels a bit thin to me.

I've been keeping my eye out for this beer, glad I finally had a chance to review it. Very fine product but didn't quite live up to the lofty expectations I created.

12oz bottle poured into tulip.

A - Ultra clear amber copper with a compact eggshell white head.

S - Grapefruit, mango, pine, rich caramel, accompanied by light earthy floral notes.

T - Delicious fresh grapefruit, mango and peach. Sweet, bready caramel malt lends balance. Nice complexity. Mildly bitter with a hint of alcohol in the finish.

M - Medium bodied and smooth. Moderate carbonation with a dry finish and warming alcohol.

O - Solid double IPA from Sierra Nevada. Flavorful and enjoyable, this is a great brew.

This beer was amazing.

Incredible floral hop aroma. Pours a bright orange-honey colored liquid with a ridiculous huge head.

Flavor is hop heavy without being ridiculously bitter. Some malt but the dominant attribute is lots and lots of herbal hops. Very dry. Maybe a tiny bit of citrus, especially grapefruit. A little bit of pine and bread too.

Mouthfeel is very interesting. Lots of hop oil is apparent. I kinda like it.

DIPA's aren't my favorite style, but this beer may have me convinced that my opinion of them was too hastily formed. I'm glad I bought a sixer of this beer.
