Notes/Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

A: Two-finger just slightly off-white head that lingers long time, golden orange color, decent carbonation, lots of lacing

S: Nice blend of hops, grapefruit, earthy and woody, tropical fruits

T: Sweetness up front, then goes along with aroma, some pine, grapefruit and bitterness in the end

M: Good for style, smooth, okay carbonation, medium-bodied, dry finish

O: Quality Imperial IPA, I like the variety of hops blended together for this, very close to rating this higher for taste and mouthfeel, highly drinkable beer

12 oz bottle, Sierra Nevada's confusing but sort of cool bottle date code shows a date of 2012, Feb. 17, 5:58am off of bottling line 2 (how cool that it gives you so much info, I never noticed before)

A- Pours a golden orange color, topped with two fingers of creamy off-white head, has pretty good retention and great lacing.

S- Wow, an incredibly hoppy aroma, citrus and resin are there, but the hop aroma just really fresh, leafy and piney, it smells just like a glass full of freshly picked hop cones, amazing.

T- Just like the nose, a huge blast of leafy, piney, resinous hops, again it tastes like these hops were picked this morning. Beneath the initial wall of leafy bitterness there's some nice citrus flavors including grapefruit and mango, also some honey and boozy sweetness, also some caramel malt, however any sweet flavors get totally annihilated by hop bitterness.

M- Medium-bodied, smooth creamy feel, the alcohol is almost undetectable, no heat at all.

O- This is a seriously badass DIPA, this is a hopheads dream, this beer is definitely up there with the best DIPAs, I'm going back to the store tomorrow to get more.

2012 Vintage. No other freshness dating. Code on bottle says 2848210: 43

A= Pours a deep amber color with a nice finger of thick milky head on it that stands about a finger high with some nice lacing on the side of the glass.

S= The aroma can be smelled from several feet away. The aroma is great big tropical fruit aromas. Pineapple is a major player in the nose as well as some of that fresh yellow stuff in the hop cone.

T= The flavor is just as powerful as the aroma. The tropical fruit flavor is sort of subdued by some straight up bitterness. There is a malty sweet backbone in it that holds strong through the bitterness. The hop character is similar to the torpedo hop character I think with maybe a bit more of a tropical tone to it.

M= A nice light carbonation that is just spritzy enough to clean the tongue.

O= A high quality beer from SN. Definitally worth having. I would say this isn't quite on the same plain as hopslam but it's still a great DIPA. Try it out if you can get it.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Pours a deep golden/ orange color, with lots of thick foamy white head that has some staying power. It's leaving really thick lacing on the glass, and a nice cap on top as I drink. Looks great.

Smells like fresh cut pine wood. Very refreshing smell. Citrus fruits, and some mild booziness in the back ground.

Taste follows the nose. Lots of pine taste, some grapefruit, and some faint honey sweetness. Plenty of resiny hoppy flavor.

Mouthfeel has a nice medium body, with good carbonation. The resiny hoppy taste sticks.

Overall glad I picked up a 4 pack. The more I try DIPA's, the more I like them. Sierra Nevada has done a good job with this one.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled 2/17/2012. Pours hazy golden orange color with a nice 2 finger off white head with great retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of huge orange, pineapple, grapefruit, mango, honey, and light pine. Great aromas here with huge fruitiness and absolutely no alcohol noticeable at over 10%. Taste of big mango, grapefruit, pineapple, orange, pine, honey, biscuit, and light herbal spiciness. Surprisingly light bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, mango, citrus, and herbal on the finish for a while. Great flavor balance without being too cloying. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, sticky, and slick mouthfeel. Nice and smooth, but is still definitely a sipper. Alcohol is very well hidden, with only a slight warming after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic DIPA. Huge hoppy flavor; but still very balanced and as smooth as a 10% brew could be.

12 oz. bottle purchased locally as a single ($2.69). Dated February 17th, 29 days old. Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A: Slightly hazy, deep amber/light copper; 1-1/2" full, off-white head that settles and leaves sparse lacing; an occasional rising bubble.

S: Dank pine, biscuits, with some citrus & other fruit; alcohol.

T: Pine resin, some fruity sweetness, then very fast-building bitterness that lingers; grapefruit aftertaste.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation; thick and resiny feel; some alcohol heat; dry finish.

O: This is a real hop showcase -- not balanced, but a very interesting experience. Responds to the question, "Just how many hops can be infused into a recipe?" A gift to hop lovers.

The beer poured really nice, but smelled even better. Like a fresh pine tree, or if someone held a handful of fresh hops right to your nose, it was amazing.

And the taste didn't let down either. It was similar to the smell. Very bitter, but not overpowering, and smooth on the finish, The alcohol was actually well hidden.

The only bummer was the "dank" hop feel on the back end of the brew. But still very good.

I'll definitely be buying this beer again.

Poured into my Short's Pint Glass from the bottle.

A: Typical golden brown IPA with about a half finger of white head. A little bit of lacing but nothing spectacular.

S: Citrus, Hops, Tropical Fruits, a tinge of alcohol.

T: Very good DIPA - the flavors come through pretty well, the lemon, grapefruit and citrus. The hops come out on the backbone but it finishes pretty clean.

M: Light bodied, pretty creamy.

O: Fantastic DIPA. Certainly glad I picked up a bottle to try, might have to go back to the store for a few more. Very drinkable but like Hopslam, have to be wary of the high ABV.
