A: A chestnut brown color with light leather edges. A foamy tan head deposits a thick collar of lace and retains very nicely. Certainly an above average appearance for a brown ale.
S: Sweet gently toasted malts, a note of maple and brown sugar. Some biscuit-like malt, but not very noticeable. Simple and enjoyable, but not especially noteworthy.
T&M: Gentle sweetness showcasing toasted brown sugar flavors leads into a dry nut-like flavor. Light dustings reminiscent of unsweetened chocolate shavings emerge later, along with a slight twinge of grassy hop flavor. Body is light to medium with a thin feel that's to style.
D: Tumbler is a simple brown ale that drinks well, but nothing really jumps out about it. Given the price, it's a great alternative to other commonly available brown ales like Newcastle, but I likely wouldn't choose it over the several other more interesting session brown ales out there.
