Fresh in from the local Whole Foods, this new offering from SN has appealing autumnal bottle art, though being the end of July is more than a tad early. Guess this means their Celebration winter brew will be here in two weeks. bummer, nothing worse than this sort of commercial season creep.
This brew pours a fine brown color.
Aroma is HUGE sulphitic burnt match, bleh. Some eggy sulfur in here too, this is not promising.
Hoping that it airs out a bit, I gave it a swirl or two and took a sip. Big sulfur in the taste too. Skuzzy burnt malt and a bit nutty. Mouth is pretty full, and the hops are just enough to keep it on the malty side, which is true to style. Just can't get past the nast.
Wife thought it tasted like stale fireworks...I've trained her senses well...
Don't let this new offering from SN draw you in. Unless they just had some bad batches and plan to resolve this matchhead taste, IGNORE this beer like the plague.

Sampled tonight on 6/26/14. Found this bottle in the back of the cooler so it is a good year old I am guess BUT there isn't a expiration date anyone on the bottle and this brew is now RETIRED and no longer brewed. But opened it and it was fine. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a 14 ounce glass 'Texas style " boot.
Pours a clear dark brown in color with a good 3-finger off-white head! Good carbonation with some sediment left in the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is of roasted malts, hazel nut and brown sugar. Very nice! The taste is close to the aroma but not as strong BUT pretty good overall with all the flavors mentioned above coming through lots of the hazelnut 'nut' flavor in the mix. A slight dry smoke finish but still good.
