An autumn beer on August first...seriously this is getting crazy. summer is only half over. I only bought it because I knew it would be super fresh and I loved last years.
A : pours a very dark brown that you can barely see through. A nice off white head that is thick and laces well
S : a bit of nut aroma and a hint of chocolate malt. A slight musty smell either comes from earthy hops or just rounded from the nutty aromas. All quite subtle but nice.
T : starts thick and sweet with slightly roasted malt and a nice toasted flavor. Nutty and biscuity all in one, finishing with a little bit of bitter hops and some more of the nut flavor. Very nice indeed.
M : full bodied yet very drinkable. well carbed and very easy going.
A great brown ale that I would love all year round. Much less hop than you'd think from a sierra, but they are still there more than in most. A very good brown indeed and an excellent early autumn beer, which will be right around the celebration release right?

Sampled tonight on 6/26/14. Found this bottle in the back of the cooler so it is a good year old I am guess BUT there isn't a expiration date anyone on the bottle and this brew is now RETIRED and no longer brewed. But opened it and it was fine. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a 14 ounce glass 'Texas style " boot.
Pours a clear dark brown in color with a good 3-finger off-white head! Good carbonation with some sediment left in the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is of roasted malts, hazel nut and brown sugar. Very nice! The taste is close to the aroma but not as strong BUT pretty good overall with all the flavors mentioned above coming through lots of the hazelnut 'nut' flavor in the mix. A slight dry smoke finish but still good.
