Draft pour into a shaker pint at Selma's in Rancho Santa Margarita.
A: Clear, dark brown color with backlit ruby highlights. Head is represented by a thin white residue that leaves behind moderate lacing on the glass.
S: Toasted malt, faint chocolate and toffee. No fruit is detectable.
T: Begins dry with a mineral snap, accompanied by faint anise. Some dark fruit emerges midway, followed by a finish of earthy charcoal and light bitterness.
M: Light-medium viscosity with moderate carbonation.
D: This beer is mostly uninteresting, but it does not offend the palate. As it is now, this beer is easy to pair with food but a richer malt presence would enhance it further.

Sampled tonight on 6/26/14. Found this bottle in the back of the cooler so it is a good year old I am guess BUT there isn't a expiration date anyone on the bottle and this brew is now RETIRED and no longer brewed. But opened it and it was fine. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a 14 ounce glass 'Texas style " boot.
Pours a clear dark brown in color with a good 3-finger off-white head! Good carbonation with some sediment left in the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is of roasted malts, hazel nut and brown sugar. Very nice! The taste is close to the aroma but not as strong BUT pretty good overall with all the flavors mentioned above coming through lots of the hazelnut 'nut' flavor in the mix. A slight dry smoke finish but still good.
