This is a distinct brown ale to say the least. Serves beautifully from one of Sierra Nevada's consistently gorgeous seasonal bottles, so well in fact that I am skipping the glass on this one. Take that biznatch.
Smells like that dark brown bread so traditional for Thanksgiving dinner. There is a hint of smokiness that blends well with the restrained sweetness of the malts.
That smokiness really comes across here. I can't help but be reminded of smoked fish, particularly sardines in a can. A salty profile I guess. This would make a great pairing. The dark bread sweetness is a good match for these hops, which are nothing but grass.
Overall this is a very creative brown ale. Considering the flagship of this style is Newcastle, it is great to see what SN has done with such a low ABV. Tumbler is no Palo Santo, but it is a delicious and affordable Fall beer and it should be noted as such.
