Slightly hazy deep chocolate brown that hints at amber along the edges. Huge fluffy white head that leaves perfect lacing along the edges of the glass.
An interesting combination of crisp american hops along with subtle roasted malts. There is also a pleasant malty sweetness.
Bitter roasted malts right up front with an eathy hop presence. There is something about this beer that reminds me of a sourdough bread or other baked good. Interesting flavors, but every other sip I'm back and forth on if I like it or not. Definite english esb or special bitter characteristics.
Thin to moderate mouthfeel with subtle carbonation.
This is definitely interesting to see coming from Sierra Nevada. Not their characteristic hoppy IPA or PA. I'm still a little back and forth on whether or not I like this beer. There is something about the aftertaste that I just can't place that leaves a funny slickness / off flavor.

Sampled tonight on 6/26/14. Found this bottle in the back of the cooler so it is a good year old I am guess BUT there isn't a expiration date anyone on the bottle and this brew is now RETIRED and no longer brewed. But opened it and it was fine. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a 14 ounce glass 'Texas style " boot.
Pours a clear dark brown in color with a good 3-finger off-white head! Good carbonation with some sediment left in the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is of roasted malts, hazel nut and brown sugar. Very nice! The taste is close to the aroma but not as strong BUT pretty good overall with all the flavors mentioned above coming through lots of the hazelnut 'nut' flavor in the mix. A slight dry smoke finish but still good.
