Tumbler smells rich and malty, ripe with yeasty bread notes reminiscent of fresh baguettes, and full of sugary fruits, including orange, apricot, and berry. A thin hint of clove and brown sugar rounds out the nose, bringing fall aromas to the forefront.
On the tongue, the beer brings, first and foremost, a nutty pecan flavor, which moves almost immediately into thick wheat and cereal grains. Light fruit esters--apricot, peach, white grape--play in the background, but are generally overtaken by toasted grains. A good addition of hops brings a citrus tingle to the soft palate, and offsets the sugars. Late in the mouthful the hops gain extra strength, imparting a notable bitterness. The aftertaste is mainly light wheat and hops, and fades fairly quickly. Mouthfeel is medium-light, and carbonation is medium to medium-heavy.
Overall, this is a great autumn brown, heavy with grain flavors and perfect to celebrate the coming of fall. Only the slight over-bitterness of the hops mars what is otherwise a fantastic brew.
