The brew poured with a thick two finger, tan head that dissipated pretty slowly. It left a lot of pretty lacing on the glass. The body poured a beautiful deep brown with lots of active visible carbonation. The nose had a lot of nuttiness on it…I’m going with hazelnuts. Maybe even a hint of maple? Although I’m a total hop head, this smells like fall to me. On first sip, I’m impressed with how good of a brown ale this was. It had the nuttiness that was apparent in the nose, coupled with sweet malt, and then a minor hint of bitterness. All the flavors work together in concert. The body was on the thinner side with moderate carbonation making it an easy beer to throw down after raking leaves or some other appropriate fall activity. The finish was quick with some bitterness to it, albeit mild. To me, this is a great session beer for the fall and I could see drinking it while sitting by a firepit. This will definitely be a seasonal go-to brew.

Sampled tonight on 6/26/14. Found this bottle in the back of the cooler so it is a good year old I am guess BUT there isn't a expiration date anyone on the bottle and this brew is now RETIRED and no longer brewed. But opened it and it was fine. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a 14 ounce glass 'Texas style " boot.
Pours a clear dark brown in color with a good 3-finger off-white head! Good carbonation with some sediment left in the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is of roasted malts, hazel nut and brown sugar. Very nice! The taste is close to the aroma but not as strong BUT pretty good overall with all the flavors mentioned above coming through lots of the hazelnut 'nut' flavor in the mix. A slight dry smoke finish but still good.
