Notes/Commercial Description:
Tumbler is our take on the classic brown ale – full of roasted malt flavor but delicate on the palate and perfect for crisp fall days. Layered with notes of chocolate and toasted bread and a hint of smoke, Tumbler is the ultimate autumn beer, so grab a seat and watch as the leaves come tumbling down.

12 ounce bottle poured into a shaker pint. Very dark brown with just a hint of reddish hues. Small but resilient creamy beige head and full lacing.

Moderate toasted and caramel malts, roasted nuts, chocolate, coffee, and just a tiny bit of citrus in the background.

Flavor is full of malts, but not ridiculously sweet, and lacks the vinegar/acidity of a lot of browns out there. Somewhat fruity, caramel, light hop bitterness, and toast.

Medium-bodied and medium carbonation. Very smooth mouthfeel.

I'm not a huge brown fan, but this one was pretty good and I try to keep style in mind when rating. Overall this is a nice late-fall/early-winter beer when I'm not quite in the mood for a heavier stout/porter or anything too spiced.

A good showing by Sierra Nevada. It's hard to make a distinguished brown ale. This one may be. It has a toasted/biscuit character that seperates it from other brown ales. Just enough for you to notice, but not too much to block its drinkability. Im usually not a huge fan of the style, but I liked this.

2011 edition

Clear brown color with two fingers of head that had excellant retention. The head eventually settles to a thick cap. Nice lacing is left down the glass.

Aroma of toasted nuts and toasted bread. Hops show up with a tea leaf aroma.

The hops are much more prevalent in this brown ale than most others of the style. Not really suprising considering the brewer. Hops add a grassy, tea like flavor. The malt gives a nutty and bready flavor. Walks a fine line between bitter and sweet.

Not the most impressive body but is nice considering the 5.5% ABV. Carbonation seems to be the same across the Sierra Nevada portfolio.

A more hoppy brown ale for a fall season. Not exactly what I am looking for that time of year, but still a well crafted beer.
