Poured a clear reddish-brown hue with one finger foamy white head that recedes and leaves lace ring down mug.
Not as much grapefruit on the aroma as I thought but more of a piney, earthy, dirty hop aroma that gives off a little bit of citric spice and grape sweetness.
Laid back beer b/c the under 7% ABV doesn't factor into this ale at all so the beer is smooth, medium-to heavy body ("fluffy" at times), slightly dry, with some sticky malt sweetness.
The hops are the star and they are low-key, giving off a piney, citric taste that never overpowers/ruins your taste buds but gives off a wonderful taste profile that keeps you wanting more as well as giving off slight grape/tangerine like sweetness.
Pretty good ale that any Sierra Nevada or west coast type ale fan needs to try.
I can only wonder how the 2014 version differs from previous versions since I never tried this beer before, b/c not only does the current version have no wax top but in comparison of reviews of previous versions the grapefruit taste profile seems to be lessened in the current version and a more earthy, dry feel is present.
Maybe drinkers of this beer from yesteryears can take a pass but I think it's worth trying this year's version.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/9/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, balance, and robustness of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a really excellent wet hop IPA. All around great robustness, balance, and complexity of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and fairly crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
