I haven't tried any of the other 30th anniversary styles, but it was impossible to resist this one when I read the label - a blend of oak-aged Bigfoot, Celebration Ale, and Pale Ale, generously dry-hopped - who could resist? Corked and caged bottle opens with a serious pop.

Really excellent looking beer. It pours a shade of ruddy brown with ruby highlight glinting throughout. It is semi-opaque with enough clarity to at least see the small bubbles rising throughout. The initially massive 3-finger frothy toasted head retains remarkably well at a finger and a half or so, and with every drink, thick washes of foam coat the walls of the glass and leave sticky trails of lace as they recede back into the head.

Unfortunately there's not much smell coming off this one. I get a whiff of bitter citrus and just a smidge of caramel malt. I was expecting something much bigger from the beers that went into this and the well-retained head, but it really made me work for it.

Tastewise, my first impression is DIPA, because the hops are really the focal flavor - no surprise considering the 3 beers that went into it. They present as a combination of bitter citrus rind and dank, sap, and they hang around throughout the entire drink, most notably in the long-lasting aftertaste. I also get the sweetness of the caramel malts and a little bit earthiness that I attribute to the oak. The "generous dry-hopping" is really evident, as the astringency of the hops creates an overall brightness to the beer and leaves a definite stickiness all over the palate. Feel overall is medium-bodied with light carbonation. I expected a creamier consistency due to the head, but the beer really just slips by it instead of carrying it along.

Drinkability is really high, especially at 9.2. It has all the smoothness of Celebration, complemented nicely by the sweetness of the Bigfoot.

Poured into a snifter. Bottle reads 22% aged in bourbon barrels.
A - Pours a deep amber color with a generous 2 finger off-white head that slowly dissipates to a thick lacing.
S - Bourbon up front with carmel, vanilla and hops at the end.
T - Bourbon and carmel to start with a somewhat blank middle and a distinct hops bite on the end.
M - Somewhat thin for a celebration ale. Moderately carbonated.
O - You can taste the various components, the Bigfoot, the Celebration and the Pale ale. Even after being blended, re-hopped and partially barrel aged it hasn't married very well.

Pours an amber brown with a bit of orange. Medium tan collar and the head was either non-existent or faded so quickly that I didn't see it by the time it was handed to me. Aroma is boozey, really overly woody, brown sugar. Medium body and very low carbonation . Taste is of raisin, toffee, and some of that woodiness present in the aroma. Taste is more of a barley wine than grand cru.
