A-pours a nice soft amber color with an off white foamy head that lingers
S-citrus, honey, a hint of pine
T-Nice malt body meets with lots of hop bitterness that is dominated by the pine flavor that finishes clean with a little citrus bitterness on the palate
M-medium bodied, good amount of carbonation
O-Delicious IPA which is expected from Sierra Nevada. They make some of the most drinkable hoppy beers around. Fantastic for the price and would most certainly beer again

Beautiful beer. A little bitter on the tongue, gorgeous aromas of pine, honey, some citrus and some floral notes. An absolutely fluffy white head and a smooth resounding finish. Great beer, even better when really cold, when all the wet hops seem to explode against the roof of the mouth.

Appearance - 5.0
Pours a big, moussy off-white head with great retention that leaves sticky lace all the way down the glass, over a clear body with a colour that sits somewhere between deep amber and ruby red.

Smell - 4.0
It's all about the hops, but sadly, I'm quite sure this bottle isn't as fresh as it should be and I really have to inhale deeply to get any aroma at all. Perfumy musk lollies, turkish delight, dried apricots and citrus peel. All nice, but without the intensity I look for in any IPA.

Taste - 4.0
A rather different offering to the Southern Hemisphere Hop Harvest Ale - less delicate with a more concentrated fruit flavour. Light, sweet bisuity malt base, a little caramel and hop driven flavours of marmalade, fried apricots, limes and pine. Finishes dry with a lingering bitterness that is assertive without being aggressive and just right for style.

Mouthfeel - 4.5
Medium to full bodied, moderately carbonation with fine bead, quite smooth, almost creamy.

Overall - 4.0
A lovely, big IPA, better than their Celebration Ale. This said, for me this still falls short of the best Australian IPAs, which judging by other reviews can only be a matter of freshness. This beer was only out of the fridge for less than one hour between the bottle shop and my house, yet the hop character still seemed somewhat faded. The moral of the story - if you like hoppy beers, buy local.

Drank from my Bombardier conic pint glass.

A - Pours a hazy orange reddish colour with an off White two fingered head that retains till the end.

S - Aromas of grapefruit and pine with a touch of honey.

T - Up front some fresh hop followed by some grassyness that kicks in before some nice malty undertones. Definite piney flavours with a nice twisted bitterness at the finish, that could be described as a little citrusy.

M - Medium body and carbonation

O - A great beer that is only let down by its aromas. The flavour profile is well thought out.

Poured from a bottle into a nonic pint.

A – a hazy, deep, russet gold with a sand-colored two-finger head that lasted what seemed like an eternity. Epic lacing once the head dwindled, but at first the head held together too tightly to even leave any lacing at all. (A good thing)

S – Equal parts grassy west coast hops and doughy malt. Aroma nice and strong, but nothing to really knock the socks off.

T – Wow! Floral, resinous hop bite followed almost immediately by a huge blast of sweet, biscuit malt. Caramel flavor present in the malt as well. Some citrus/bitter fruit esters from the yeast. What’s amazing here is how well balanced everything is and how long that balance carries, which is all the way through the aftertaste. Finishes “wet”, with the slightest bit of alcohol heat coming through. Just stunning.

M – Full bodied to the point of bordering on “chewy”, with aggressive carbonation which accents the flavors perfectly. A slam dunk.

O – What a beer! Enough hops for hop heads, and enough malt and alcohol for lovers of “stronger” beers. Flavors, while not incredibly complex, are RICH. I might have a hard time enjoying boring one-note hop bombs with dry finishes after drinking this flavor and mouth feel giant. This is without a doubt my favorite IPA I have sampled. Will be a staple.

Ba Review #114
Served On: 01/25/2012
Glassware: Duvel Glass
Labeled ABV: 6.7%
Date/ Code: 2011 Release

This was found at Ye Old Spirit Shop in Frederick (Anyone see Sipping Tom around?).

Look: Poured a sticky brownish orange with zero carbonation bubbles. The beer was very cloudy with expected sediment from all the unfiltered wet hops. Head was a sticky cap of off-white patchy foam that consisted of random sized bubbles. It hung around the entire time.

Smell: Sweetened grapefruit with an interesting vanilla-citrus. The only other IPA I know to have this vanilla component is Stout’s Double IPA. I can also get a faint spice similar to the SN Torpedo.

Taste: Wow, this is a fantastic IPA. First was the sugary grapefruit from the nose. Then came the citrusy vanilla note that lead into a very smooth aftertaste of bitter hops mixed with s residual malt sweetness. Mouth feel was very creamy and sticky.

Poured into a tulip.

Hazy copper with a creamy white head that leaves a nice layer of lace.

It's got a big cascade nose. There's a bit of hidden malts.

This beer is a big hop whammy for the first 3 drinks. This gives way to a nice malt background that isn't too sweet but blends well with the hops. The hops are grassy and spicy.

It's medium bodied and not overly carbonated. A bit sticky too.

This beer smooths itself nicely. Not a palate scorcher like I initially thought, but a pretty drinkable brew. Very nice.
