look: 3.75 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: clear; amber colored; 1 finger off white head that receded to a thin collar; nice lacing;

Smell: somewhat muted; caramel malt is there, with pine behind that;

Taste: caramel malt and earthy/herbal hops; a little grapefruit at the finish; mildly bitter from mid-palate to the finish;

Mouthfeel: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish;

Overall: not as hop forward as I would have liked, but very well balanced and enjoyable to drink;

look: 4 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

22 oz. bottle purchased at Connecticut Ave Wine & Liquors, packaged on 09/24/2014, poured into my NEBCo Gandhi-Bot snifter, drank over an hour or so

A: 2/3 - deep amber-brown coloration, initial khaki head settles into a 1/4 finger coating that persists throughout drinking; high clarity (can both see and read through); moderate alcohol legs

A: 7/12 - muted grapefruit, orange and pine notes over a moderate malt bready/biscuity aroma; some alcohol; no diacetyl, no DMS

T: 11/20 - mild bitterness on the front of the tongue; mid-palate is followed by grapefruit, pine and tangerine that is followed and quickly overtaken by malts - toast, biscuit and cracker; some mild alcohol on the back of the palate; finishes dry with little aftertaste

M: 3/5 - moderate carbonation; some hop oils and alcohol fullness coat the tongue

O: 7/10 - decent IPA but an another disappointing harvest ale - other than the novelty of the fresh/whole cone experience, I just don't understand the appeal - with the exception of Troegs Hop Knife, which used their Hop Cyclone, all harvest ales are light on hop aroma/flavor in favor of malts, which is usually boring profile (lots of 2-row and little else); it's not a bad beer but, for me, is no 93 and your money is much better spent elsewhere

TOTAL - 30/50
