Review from notes. 2011 edition.
Bomber size bottle poured into large dimpled mug a cloudy, orange honey color with a thin lacy head left behind.
Strong dry hop taste right up front, peppery with a bit of citrus and just an under lying hint of the 6.7% abv.
I tend to tread lightly with IPA's but am always on the look out for a well balanced entry that isn't too high in the IBU's and not a complete choker destined for the drain. I thought this was very well done and not nearly as strong as I was expecting but a definite sipper from the hops within. Solid as always from Sierra Nevada.

2011 edition poured from a 24 oz bottle into a liter mug. Pours a dark amber color with a nice frothy white head that stays and leaves nice lacing. Smells of hops and floral and citrus tones. Very pleasant smell and has a few complexities. The taste is a lot of hops and a little malty taste, but the hops are very nice and dominant. For a very hoppy beer, this is very good in carbonation and in smoothness, and definitely is one, while not one to be chugged in any definition, is definitely one I could drink all night. Overall, a very good beer. Just too bad it only comes out for a few months each year.

Pours a rich copper with a frothy off white head that has very good retention and lacing.

Smells of fresh citrus bitter and sweet, with a sort of floral pine scent, backed by a faint caramel malt aroma.

Heavy earthy pine flavor up front. Next is a lively citrus flavor dominated by bitter grapefruit. A slight caramel sweetness and some bread notes round it out to a full lively flavor. This beer dances in your mouth in a slow harmonious waltz - very nice. I like the punk mosh feel of some American IPAs, but this one is very pleasing as well in its own unique way.

Picked up a bottle at the local liquor store. I have to admit, it's a pretty impressive label. Killer presentation. Bar code with some numbers, but no discernible expiration date. Let's give er a whirl!

A: Pours a hazy penny colored reddish brown. Lively carbonation. Large bubbles. Couple fingers of off white head with great retention. Stellar lacing of the glass.

S: Piney, woody and resinous with mango and grapefruit bursting out of the glass. Big malts rise up in the nose with bready, doughy and sweet notes contrasting the fruit and evergreen.

T: Malt followed by an immediate drying of the mouth from the hops. Notes of peach/nectarine are followed by orange and grapefruit with a slight bit of...mango, maybe? These are all subtle flavors that are quickly devoured by evergreen and woody flavors. The finish is very dry, with hints of residual bitterness and that same woodiness coming through.

M: The moderate carbonation works well with how dry this beer finishes. Balanced for what it is. Absolutely no residual taste or feel of alcohol, even though it clocks in near 7 percent.

O: Once again, Sierra Nevada knocks one out of the park. More and more SN is becoming my go to beer. Any dive in Santa Barbara carries the pale, I can find the Torpedo for cheap at the grocery store. Seriously, it's hard to go wrong with a brand this widely available and this good. And the pricing is fair, for the most part. Sam Adams and Yuengling may have larger numbers, but as far as I'm concerned, this is THE great American brewery operating right now.

24 oz bottle, with a code on label, that's unclear.

appears a bright copper color, thick off-white head. excellent head retention. pleasant bright hop aroma. blend of pine, herbal, and citrus flavors.

taste has just enough caramel malt flavor to balance the crisp hop bite. refreshing, not too bitter. hop oils comes through. medium body, good level of carbonation.

overall - definitely a great IPA.

P-like how the bottle illustrates the hop fields like the ones at the brewery. Cool label has lower hemisphere on the back print.

A-beer hold a decent head. Bubbly, light off white. Like a hint of brown. Beer is also a brownish color. Almost a wood. Cloudy.

S-smells like it's gonna be one bitter tasting beer. Lots if hop. Does smell a little wet. Nice fruits, banana, pineapple, green apple. Little grapefruit also.

T-really hoppy and subtle. The bitter lingers in your mouth really nicely and settles slowly. Taste much of the fruits I mentioned above. Like how the draw starts off slow and simple but then slowly opens up.

M-nice carbonation in this one. Medium bodied I would say. Sits nice and full on the palate. Flavors really add a nice touch to the beer.

O-a good beer. I digged this one. The Flavors keep it interesting and smooth. Really hoppy and nice. It is a little dry and finishes quick. But still ok.

on tap at khyber in philly - review from notes

Pours a brilliant deep amber color with some burnt orange glow. Frothy beige head rests on top, retaining well throughout the pour, leaving splotchy lacing behind.

Grassy and hoppy in the nose with citrus peel. Bready malts, touch of sweetness and faint spice.

Nice bitterness up front, piny with grapefruit juiciness and rind. Very bitter throughout, but not without some malt balance. Caramel seeps in with toasted malts and some bready notes. Hint of sweetness washed away by another wave of ruby red grapefruit hoppiness and faint warmth.

Medium body, well carbed, very dry and lingering on the tongue. Really tasty wet hop beer, I forgot how good this was.
