Clear mahogany pour with a touch of ruby. Gorgeous two finger head with minimal retention and decent lacing. The nose is pretty typical for a Belgian Dubbel with hints of brown sugar, toast, caramel, and dark fruit. The taste follows suit, but with an American twist. Lots of caramel, figs, toasty malt, and a healthy dose of metal. As it warms, the spicy hops emerge with a touch of black pepper, black cherries and vanilla. Nice dry, but slightly syrupy finish. Great drinkability as I killed a bomber by myself. It has all the best characteristics of a Trappist with that American spin on a Dubbel. Another classic beer from Sierra Nevada!
