Been unintentionally sitting on this bottle for a while, finally getting around to drinking it. Tasted 7 September 2012, reviewed from notes.
Pours a moderately dark amber, pretty clear. About 1 finger of creamy yellowish slightly orange head. Decent retention, lacing is fine, leaves a pretty thick cap.
Smell is fairly sugary, but on the thin side for a dubbel. Brown sugar and a bit of caramel, plus a touch of woody aroma.
Taste is thin. Feels over-attenuated for a dubbel, like it ought to have more residual sugar in it. It's like half dubbel, half washed-out pale ale. Some odd nutty, woody flavors that remind me more of a brown ale. Some brown sugar, but not enough of those sugary flavors. And very little yeast presence.
Mouthfeel is liquidy, a little bit slick, a little bit thick. Relatively low carbonation.
A rather dull, not especially enjoyable beer. Thin and not very complex, and lacking many of the things I expect from this style. Taste feels about half there.
