The final bottle sampled from the SN Best of Beer Camp variety case.
Enjoyed in a DFH Pint Glass.
A - Pours a very hazy, totally opaque, orange color. Massive three finger, creamy white head on the initial pour. Needed to wait a minute before pouring the remaining beer into the glass. A huge amount of yeast sediment on the bottom of the bottle. Fair amount of lacing on the side of the glass.
S - A clove-like, sweet smell.
T - A really sweet tasting beer. Lots of spiciness from clove and possibly cinnamon. I'm getting a banana taste as well. Alcohol is well disguised.
M - A thickish beer. A slightly syrupy consistancy. Low carbonation.
O - I understand what the style is, so based on that, it's well crafted. A good beer for its style but not my "go-to" type of beer. A bit too sweet and a beer you can't drink several of at a session, in my opinion. I reviewed this beer based upon its style and not my personal preference. I doubt I would seek this out again but for fans of this style, it is well done.

Weizenbock is definitely one of the most unheralded and underrated styles out there that lends itself to higher alcohol wheat beers that burst with flavor. Sierra Nevada didn't hit the mark on this one - bland and watered down and lacking any sort of cohesiveness. The yeast profile just needs to be much tighter than this - some clove, peppercorn, sweet bread struggle to stick out. Very disapointing.

review entered from notes taken awhile back...
a: poured into a weizen glass, after rousing the yeast, the beer pours a hazy amber the color of dark honey, nice fill, white head that retains as a good layer
s: full malt aroma with a slew of dark breads and lightly toasted sugars, lots of wheat and sweet fruits, huge yeast influence - sweet/spicy clove and lovely overripe banana, bready, herbal noble hops, richly complex and aromatic
m: carbonation around light-moderate, medium bodied
t: a delicious weizenbock - the sweet and bready malt base holds flavors of toasted sugar and grain, heavily yeasted with deeply ripened banana flavors and lots of clove, starts sweet and slowly works towards a finish of grassy noble malts, clove, banana, and more yeast - lingering long, juicy fresh banana bread with a heavily toasted crust
o: a very well crafted example - one of the better stateside samples I've had alongside Victory Moonglow, among others, the best of the beer camp mix
