I poured this 12 oz. bottle into a weizen glass. Part of the 2011 Beer Camp series.
A: cloudy honey gold color, the pour produced a cascading thick and creamy head that very slowly falls into a thick cap, the lacing is very good. A beautiful beer.
S: raw wheat, clove, banana, ripe apples, and an earthy/spicy funk.
T: the wheat and funky front give way to spices and fruit in the middle, the finish is dry with a floral hop note. Nicely balanced and delicious.
M: medium-bodied, silky texture, moderate to plentiful carbonation.
O: A solid beer all-around, though it lacks any particular characteristic that make it a great beer in my mind. Nonetheless, it is quite tasty, and I hope that SN brings it back someday.

Weizenbock is definitely one of the most unheralded and underrated styles out there that lends itself to higher alcohol wheat beers that burst with flavor. Sierra Nevada didn't hit the mark on this one - bland and watered down and lacking any sort of cohesiveness. The yeast profile just needs to be much tighter than this - some clove, peppercorn, sweet bread struggle to stick out. Very disapointing.
