On tap poured into a taster snifter at The Bistro, reviewed from notes. Beer poured a dark brown though it gets close to pitch black with a thin tan collar. Decent amount of lacing and alcohol feet from a little swirling.
Nose is rich dark dried fruits, prunes and figs with some sweeter dark raisins as well, medium roasted coffee fruitiness, and bittersweet chocolate, and mild woody tannins. As it warmed a bit, the bourbon barrel comes out a little more vanilla and burnt oak life flavors.
Taste follows the nose, very smooth dark fruits, fruity roasted coffee, and bittersweet chocolate. A little more roasted malt comes out as it sits on the tongue, as well as the vanilla and bourbon. Finish is medium, lingering chocolate sweetness and bourbon. No alcohol heat at all from this.
Medium to full body with some light carbonation, thick and rich. The regular version of this stout was too thin for my liking, so this was a nice improvement.

On tap at The Bistro for their 6th annual barrel aged beer festival. Drank quite a few pours of this, may have been the best beer there.
Black body with a tan head. A ton of sweet bourbon, wood and earthiness on the nose. They must have used a nice barrel for this one, it has a very robust and complex barrel character without much heat. Chocolate and caramel stand out the most, but there are milder notes of anise and smoke. Taste is outstanding as well, chocolate again being the dominant flavor, with big barrel overtones that lend caramel, smoke and oak. Mouthfeel is rich without being particularly syrupy, and booze is impressively reigned-in for a big beer like this with no age outside the barrel on it. Very nice lingering finish, with mild heat, dark chocolate and drying oak. Excellent overall, Sierra continues to impress me with their barrel aged experiments.

On-tap @ FoBAB.
A: pours pitch black, dark brown creamy looking head, great retention.
S: nose is inundated with raw oak which almost lends a basil like character on the nose, herbal accents, a little funky, chocolate and coffee are there but in the background.
T: chocolate and molasses come through on the palate with notes of maple, oak, and herbal accents again. It seems that the barrel aging has introduced some very herbal like flavors which are detracting from the base beer.
MF: thick body, medium carbonation
O: this one was a bit of a let down for me. I really enjoyed the non barrel aged version, but this sample, for whatever reason, seemed to pale in comparison. Everything seemed right on paper, but it seems as if something went wrong in the barrel aging process. Maybe this is isolated to the keg I sampled from, but whatever it was, it did not wow me.
