12oz bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.
A - Pours a very deep amber color with excellent clarity. Two plus fingers of tan rocky head forms and lasts for a long, long time. Sheets of sticky lacing left on the glass as the beer falls to a thick, uneven cap on the surface.
S - No mistaking this as anything but a rye beer. Lots of spicy rye on the nose which is paired well with an assertive hoppiness strong in citrusy aromas, especially grapefruit. Rye is really prominant...smells almost like a fresh loaf of bread.
T - Yep, rye front and center here too. Really is the dominant character in the flavor. Again it works nicely against the hops in here. Grapefruit comes thru a bit less than in the aroma but is still noticeable for sure. Medium level bitterness.
M - Medium bodied with a matching carbonation that just tingles enough on the tongue. Spicy rye all the way thru. Probably the most rye-forward beer I've experienced.
O - Rye lovers will definitely find this beer to match their tastes. Really forward in the flavor profile and not at all shy about it. Not quite as easy drinking as other Sierra Nevada IPA offerings, but very enjoyable in a different way. Don't think I'd have this as my everyday/go-to IPA, but now and then...a good beer to have.
