2013 Batch opened on 1.27.13

A - Pours a clear reddish-orange with a huge foamy cream-colored head with great retention.

S - Malty, biscuity, bread, slight carmel, oranges.

T - Smooth toasted malt, bread, orange, slight grass in the finish.

D - Smooth, good carbonation with a medium body.

O - Smooth malt forward and some citrus for balance. Better than I remembered the 2012 batch.

Citrus/grapefruit, subtle mint on the nose
Taste follows with citrus and herbal/minty hop notes, peppery rye. Buttery biscuit maltiness hits and finishes with rye spice and some orangey citrus lingering on the palate.
Mouthfeel is very nice, typical IPA fluffiness with some bite.

A great brew that is nicely slotted as a Spring seasonal. Characteristic SN delicious hop profile with a great addition of rye that makes for an interesting and unique experience

12 oz. bottle. 362 Julian date, so about a month old.

A: Clear mahogany body. Nice uneven fluffy head that leaves a decent amount of lacing around the glass.

S: Citrus, mint, pine, rye

T: Great hop flavors up front, and the rye flavors poke through after that. Well-balanced and not overly bitter.

M: Medium-bodied, slightly creamy, good carbonation.

O: I'm a sucker for Rye IPAs and this one is very solid.

Date - the third of January 2013

A - Poured a clear dark amber with a white frothy head that left decent lacing.

S - On first smell I pick up the rye, followed by the citrus hops somewhat of a clean yeast smell and a crispness to it.

T - This one leads with citrus hops then the rye takes over ending with the nice spicy rye in the back end. The bitterness lingers on the back of the tongue after the rye fades away.

M - This is a fluffy full bodied beer with a good amount of carbonation. Nice crisp and ended really clean.

O - For a rye forward beer this one delivers a massive amount of rye in comparison to others in this category. Really pleasant beer with a lot of nice qualities going on. I would have given a better overall but the rye seems to overpower the hops in my opinion. I would probably get again but I will not go out of my way for this one, Cheers.

A- beer pours beautifully out of the bottle, and has a nice head and great dark amberish color.

S- The smell is great. a good clash between pine and citrus, but the pepper from the rye comes through on the end. definitely stays on character with an IPA scent

M- as an IPA guy, this is a great tasting and feeling beer, however the bitterness is a bit harsh. the website says the IBU's ar at 55, but it tastes like more.

T-As most rye beers go, the taste of the grain is slightly roasty and warm, but the piney citrus notes toward the end are very tasty.

O-Overall a great IPA. i would definitely drink a 6-pack of this.

Appearance- not sure how I screwed up the pour, (maybe the altitude?) but this came with a monster head, the golden orange amber was a sight to behold

Smell- does Sierra Nevada use cascade in every beer of theirs? Super-citrusy with a spiced rye side.

Taste- a bold sweetness well balanced by the hop oils but not oily. A light toastiness makes the bulk but light fruit flavors become noticeable.

Mouthfeel- mellow medium bodied, the malt smoothness is accentuated by a kick in hop crisp at the end.

Overall- Sierra Nevada kicks out another solid one. The rye isn't under nor over-played and keeps things complex.
