Nice looking pour. Clear, dark copper. pretty thin head that clears quick, leaves a decent bit of lacing.

Nose has some peppery sharpness to it that comes across immediately. Sharp citric notes right behind the pepper. Hints of smooth toffee sweetness... faint hints. Mostly sharpness on the nose, though entirely tame and far from overbearing,

Flavor follows right on the nose, with no surprises. Assertive bitterness between citric sharpness and peppery spice. Hop character shows great balance with the rye. Some typical lemon and grapefruit action duels with spicy sharpness. Body has some weight and mild sweetness, but stays in the background.

Smooth and easy on the palate, with relatively light carbonation and a finish that shows some mild bitterness.

Overall, a pretty good beer. Rye plays a good part, without being either too subtle to notice or overbearing. Great balance. Nothing that's going to rock the beer world, but would be hard to get tired of drinking this one.

Poured into a snifter

A: Opaque burnt orange (or as my wife called it, "smokey amber." a tan half-finger head; some bubbles. Decent lacing.

S: Citrus, piney hops, grapefruit.

T: A rye/ hop mix that doesn't offend. Grapefruit, peppery. A dry finish.

M: Medium with medium carbonation. Tangy.

O: Very enjoyable. Hops are not over the top. The rye addition really smooths out the taste. Recommended.

A: into a nonic pint, a patient center-pour produced a few fingers of tan head over a gorgeous crystal-clear medium amber beer with copper-orange highlights; excellent head retention allowed great lacing to follow the beer down

S: sweet chewy rye spiciness and herbal hops

T: great rye flavors suffused into the IPA hop profile - bitterness and rye bread, some sweet caramel-like hints, biscuits and spice, pine and resin hop notes

M: medium-to-light weight, sharp and clean on the palate and tongue, slight chew

O: seems to have gotten some middling reviews, but I felt that the goal here was to brew a rye IPA, and I don't see any fail points - you can clearly and cleanly taste the rye grain and all its flavors, while the bittering piney hops of an IPA also present themselves well - I'd call it a win, and i hope my review reflects that...

This beer didn't disappoint, it poured a deep copper color with a very rich frothy head, long lasting lace clung for the entire 12 oz. serving.Smell of fresh grass, bread and citrus. Nice alchohol viscosity. Super malted, hoppy flavour with a hint of the rye. This I will try again.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Deep, transparent orange. Really cool to look it. One finger head and beautiful lacing all the way down.

S: Rye bread, piney, citrusy

T: Similar to the smell. Rye, pine, pepper. Bitter in the end.

M: Very crisp but dry. A bit chewy.

Overall: I love this beer. SN's winter and spring seasonal brews are amazing
