Fairly impressed with this beer. I generally think of Sierra Nevada as the standard "I just need a descent beer" beer. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Nice malt and hop balance, and a great finish. I actually ended up buying a second 6pack, which is extremely uncommon for me. I think this might be my new "everyday pale"

$3.50 single from Wegman's.

Slightly hazy orange body, topped by a four fingers plus of just slightly off-white micro-bubbly rocky foam. Excellent lacing quickly evident.

Aroma mixes pine and grapefruit with rye, just as the name implies it would. Not huge, but clean, fresh, and inviting.

Taste begins with rye coming out strong and laying down a dominating foundation. Some citrus, some pine, then a lot more rye as it rides toward the finish.

Medium body with lively, almost prickly mouthfeel.

Overall, a quality beer, but not my personal choice when it comes to SN hoppy beers. If you're looking for a rye IPA though, or just curious, give it a shot.

A. Like all their beers this is perfectly carbonated and a lovely dark Amber colour.

S. Sweet piney smell but not as pronounced as an ipa. Hint of almonds and hay

T. This is my first 'ryepa'. Drunk from a half pint glass and first impressions were excellent. Definate taste of rye, malty biscuit, herbs and sweet pine. Noticed within five minutes though, that the taste lost a lot of it's complexity and the alcohol taste became a little overpowering which I was surprised with as this is only 6.6 abv.

M. A little to heavy for me. Felt the alcohol taste ruined this beer for me a little and ended up tasting like a stronger version of their excellent pale ale.

O.  Definatley an interesting beer and has done enough to make me try some other rye ipas, but felt overall this beer was a little unbalanced, alcohol taste a little overbearing. I will probably try thus beer again at some point as sierras beers are more affordable than a lot of USA to UK imports but wouldnt go out of my way to buy it over some of their other excellent beers

12 oz bottle pours a crystal clear crimson color with a dense cap of tan head. Excellent retention and lacing...a damn fine looking brew.

Earthy rye and bright, citric hops are simplistic but manage not to clash as so many hoppy rye beers that have come before. Impressive.

The rye manages a smooth, even keel while the hops drive the majority of the flavor impact...from an initial floral blast to a clean, herbal bitterness. Malts probably dont get enough credit in this beer and help provide a lightly sweet, toffee-ish backdrop that is both neutral and productive at the same time. Mouthfeel is on the thin side and a tad soapy, but those are mild complaints. One of the better rye beers I have had and a sixer didnt last too long in the fridge, another one might be soon to follow.

Copper with a finger off-white head with very good retention and lacing. The aroma has grapefruit, pine, and rye.

The taste has a light amount of sweetness, and a good deal of bitterness. Has the tastes of rye, grapefruit, citrus zest, pine, and bread.

Medium bodied with average carbonation, and a bitter aftertaste with a dry finish. Oily and resinous. If you are in the mood to have a bitter beer, this one will do the job.

12oz bottle into standard pint.

A: deep reddish gold with 3 fingers of beautiful rocky pale orange head. Decent lacing and very slow to recede. Looks great.

S: Big hops on the nose, biter citrus like a grapefruit or pomello, and a tad heavy smelling. Touch of rye on the nose but not much.

T: Opens with a touch of medium malt like a red and fades into citrusy hops. Hop bitterness comes in last and leaves a grapefruit-like bitterness on the back of the tongue or like biting into the pith of an orange that persists for a long time after.. A little alcohol warmth but not much.

M: Medium bodied with light carbonation. Drinks alright but not as easy as some beers.

O: Not a bad brew, considering I don't really like IPA style and I have come back to this a second time says something at least.
