picked up locally...enjoyed out of a founders snifter.

a - brew poured semi transparent amber with a HUGE frothy ipa off white head. super sticky lacing. lines are left showing every sip i took.

s - heavy rye earthness.

t - an assault of rye on my taste buds. fortunately, i like rye. this is very different since as an IPA the hops are invisible behind the rye explosion. earthy. enjoyable, but not in the traditional sense for an ipa. some of the classic hops are suggested in the background.

m - good carbonation, medium bodied.

o - overall, not your traditional ipa by any stretch of the imagination. rye explosion. if you like rye, you'll love it, if you don't, you'll hate it. ipa, it is not...RYEpa, it is.

A: Very clean and transparent with lots of bubbles. The color is a dark shade of bronze with a red tint to it. There is a decent sized eggshell-color head that leaves lots of lacing. It looks perfect.

S: Not much scent to it...I get a minor acidic smell to it (hope that makes sense) and a light malt scent.

T: It tastes very good. There's a light rye flavor to the beer which is good, and it is pretty rich on malt and has a light smokey character to the flavor.

M: The mouthfeel is really good. The malty character seems like it would slip this away from being any kind of IPA, but the rye seems to work perfectly with the hops to bring a kind of "pinch" effect on the palate.

O: Overall I liked this beer regardless of what style it might be considered. If you're a fan of foods that have a rich savory flavor, this beer would suit you. I liked it, and I would drink it again.

Pours a clear amber color. Big white foamy head that stays firm for some time. A lot of lacing.

Smells of hops, citrus, rye, and a hint of pine. Some grapefruit notes in the background, a crisp scent, refreshing.

Taste is hops and creamy orange citrus, with some malty sweetness. Smooth upfront, with hops and a little citrus in the middle, a hop dry grapefruit finish. Hop aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is clean, smooth, and some carbonation in the finish.

I was pleasantly surprised by this IPA, very drinkable.

2012 edition. 12 oz bottle into tulip.

A: very bright, very orange hue. head is frothy and bright white. retention is good as is the lacing.

S: piney hop aromas intermingle with a very obvious rye malt. aroma leads me to believe either cascade or centennial hops were used. *just checked online, i was wrong.

T: assertive hop bitterness up front. a little bit of honey. tons of spicy rye right after and long into the finish. a little bit of pine/citrus bitterness combines with that rye spice.

M: moderate/vivid carbonation level on a very medium body.

D: chewy and flavorful, this brew really combines the right amount of balance between rye and hops. definitely a welcomed addition to the SN seasonal lineup.

A - One and a half inches of light tan colored and frothy head. The body is a transparent deep reddish brown.

S - Citrusy aroma with an earthy and subtle yeast accent.

T - Sharp and edgy hops with flavors of citrus, pine and grass nicely balanced against one another.

M - Coarse and abrasive throughout each pull.

~ I like this beer. It offers a slight dirtiness to a a great style. And I mean that in the most complimentary manner.

Pours a deep copper with a generous white head that lasts for a long time and leaves good spider web lacing on the glass. The aroma is of grains, some citrus, and piney hops. Taste is sweet malt with a hint of roast present and keeping things in balance with solid hop bitterness. Palate is medium.

I've been drinking a lot of this while it was on tap at my local beer bar. Sierra Nevada has not been known for IPA's, I guess since they're so well known for the pale. Then came the Torpedo, which was good but I think this is one of their best beers.

Appearance was typical of an IPA. Dark pale, good carbonation, very inviting looking.

Aroma was almost perfect. Great hops balanced with the malt and alcohol.

Flavor as well was a great balance of bitterness, hop flavor, malt and alcohol.

Great IPA, that I highly recommend.
