poured a nice clean amber with about an inch of foamy off white head. very hop heavy aroma full of scents of grass, pine, citrus (grapefruit), and a grape like smell to it. the taste is very bold! bitter up front from the hops and very roasted taste from the rye, a chocolatey hint to it, and a bit of a raspberry/honey overtone in the roof of the mouth. medium bodied and perfectly carbonated. this is a nice session ale for any season.

Great look with an orange amber hue and a thick foamy head. Extremely frothy lacing as the beer goes down. Aroma is welcoming, with grapefruit and resinous hop elements, and spicy rye. While I expected this beer to be more bitter, I was surprised to be greeted by a sweet and noticeably malty start to the flavor, with a sweet citrus aspect too, but it did fade out with a good bitter hop finish. Although I do detect the 'graininess' of the Rye, I would like it to be more pronounced. The beer is a little sticky, coating the mouth well but it is rather light bodied. Overall, this is good but Founders is still the reigning champion of Rye-P-As in my book.

clear and amber with little carbonation bubbles, the head was thick with very small tight foam, just slightly off-white.

smells very strong of rye and hops.

rye spiciness followed by a hoppy bitterness with just a touch of alcohol in the finish, despite the strong flavor it was very refreshing on a warm day.

hoppy bitterness lingers on the pallet, a very clean refreshing beer, not too carbonated or syrupy thick.

A great beer for summer, was delicious with a plate of pulled pork BBQ. clean, light and grassy with a distinct flavor of rye.

Served in a bottle poured into my etched tulip glass.

A - The color of honey or amber. Good looking beer. Retains a thin layer of head and the lacing retains real nice on the side of the glass.

S - Has a slight grainy aroma with floral highlights. The hops seem masked and only a slight citric note comes to the nose.

T - Very grainy. A real crisp sweetness from the malts seem to hit the tongue first but quickly you are left with the bitter explosion of the hops. A real palate buster.

M - This beer seems to be real sticky or chewy and is going to hang around for a good amount of time. The bitter flavor left behind from the hops is here to stay!

O - This is a real delicious beer that presents itself nicely and has a nice balance of sweetness up front leaving behind bitter remants. This was recommended to me by my local beer guy and I now recommend it to anybody reading this review.

A 12oz bottle of 2012 vintage, with no clear BB date. Purchased at my local beer specialist - a recent springtime addition. Looking forward to trying my first rye beer.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. A bright orangy-red colour with faint haze and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy off-white foam that hangs around for a while before reducing to a surface layer. Aroma of sweet, grainy malt with notes of citrus, floral hops and yeast. The rye adds a distinctive hint.

Tastes of sweet malt with a spicy, grainy character and a dry, hoppy finish. Notes of rye, grain, caramel, peppery citrus and earthy yeast. A prolonged bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth and full-bodied, with tingly carbonation. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of grainy malt and bitter aromatic hops.

Very nice - a great blend of malt and aromatic hops. The rye flavour is distinct, despite only being a small portion of the malt bill. The citrus aroma is also pleasing - it pairs well with the malt whereas other hop types might have been antagonistic. Superb mouthfeel with incredibly smoothness. A lovely beer; grab one now if you can.

Pours orange with a patchy off-white head. Ridges and chunks of foam cling to the glass. The aroma is a wonderful mix of fruity, juicy hop notes with emphasis on the grapefruit. The taste is of grapefruit, peach and floral hops intertwined with a doughy malt base and a little bit of rye (or hop?) spiciness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and lightly carbonated. bitterness but also malts linger in the long finish.

This is a great IPA. Lots of hop nuance and great balance with malts. I highly recommend this quaffable stuff.

12oz brown bottle of 2012 Ruthless Rye. The beer pours up a great pillowy head on top of very clear copper brew.

Even a foot away I can smell the toasted malty base and some earthy hops. Once I get my nos near it there is plenty of citrus with notes of grapefruit and pine. The rye definitely comes through and only gets stronger as the beer warms up.

The flavor has a lot of hops mixed with the rye. Exactly what you would expect from a rye IPA. Up front there is a dry earthy and oily hop flavor with rye bread and a hint of toasted malt. All the hops leaves the finish dry, bitter and satisfying.

Gift from a friend. Thanks Nic!
Poured clear copper, amber with some reddish tones. Nice frothy with head leaving a sticky lacing. Very Nice look!
N: Citrusy, grapefruit is dominant. Clementine scent on the sweet side. Pine. Crisp scent.
M: Wow! Crisp, surprisingly dry mouth. Carbonation is medium high, almost fizzy on tongue. Medium body.
T: Smooth upfront but bitterness quickly bites in. A little bit more on the english side of an IPA than the american side, but still very american in character. Orange flavour, slight roasted caramel. Rye is present, although I'm not very familiar with this taste.

Overall, a very good IPA, probably because this bottle is very fresh. Would seek it to buy it again. Another very nice beer from Sierra Nevada.

Pours copper with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows tropical fruit, with overt passionfruit alongside peach and green apples. Faint spicy, bready notes underneath. Unfortunately the fruit fades pretty quickly to be replaced by pine and grassy hops.
Very hoppy flavours, but nowhere near as much tropical fruit, more focussed on pine and grapefruit. Underneath is more spicy, bready notes, followed by an aggressive, sharp bitterness.
Could use a bit more carbonation.
