12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 12/23/2011. Pours slightly hazy orange amber color with a nice 2 finger dense off white head with great retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some nice spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange, pine, caramel, grass, herbal, and rye spiciness. Nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of caramel, biscuit, orange, grapefruit, pine, herbal, grass, and spicy rye. Nice amount of spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, biscuit, rye, citrus, and pine on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance of bitterness and malts make this quite smooth. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and silky mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish noticed. Overall this is an excellent rye IPA. Great flavor balance and smoothness. Very enjoyable with nice hop flavors.

Pours an rich amber color, with a big off white head that leaves nice lacing behind. The nose is weak, but has some floral hop notes followed by some malty tones. Has a smoothe taste beginning with a piney hop note followed by malty rye tones. Plesant, medium mouthfeel and carbonation refreshing. Overall a solid brew and worth picking up a six pack. I would like a little stronger rye presence, however it is still a very enjoyable beer and I will buy it again.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye is a perfectly clear and sparkling light copper ale with a dense, lumpy, creamy head that has pockets of large bubbles in it. The retention and lacing is outstanding. The juicy citrus hops speak loudly of tangerines and grapefruit while conversing about spicy rye and muttering something about caramel. One whiff makes the mouth water. It's medium bodied and quite smooth and lively in the mouth. The finish is dry and crunchy. It tastes nice and bitter with the main flavor being tangerine peel. After the swallow, there's a wave of rye whiskey flavor. The taste of bitter citrus is sustained for a while. There's a juiciness throughout, but not really any sweetness. Wow, I see why all my friends have been going nuts about this. It's a pretty manly pale ale. It's hard to stop at one pint.

This poured out as a nice looking amber color with a white head on top. The smell of the beer has some nice hop aromas with the addition of the rye in there too. The taste of the beer had a pretty good balance of spicy rye with the fresh hop flavors. The mouthfeel of the beer was good, nice carbonation and drinkablity to it. Overall this beer wasn't too bad, I'd drink it again if I came across it and was in the mood to have it again.

Poured from my growler into a Duvel tulip. The beer is beautiful looking. It is clear and copper-colored with a huge head like a snowdrift. I don't know if bottles of this pour quite as well, but if they do then bravo. The nose is a bit subdued (not surprised considering that head), but I'm getting faint notes of fresh flowers and pine.

Nice, crisp rye flavor accompanied by a pretty aggressive hop profile. It's aggressive, but not overdone. I think hopheads must really like this beer. I wish it had a tiny bit more malt presence, but it's very good. The beer has a medium body and a really dry finish. If I was forced to compare this to my favorite rye beer (Founders Red's Rye), I would have to say this one comes up a bit short, but it's still excellent. I could drink this often and not get tired of it.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours a nice amber/ ruby red color. Very clear. Nice off white head lasted the whole glass. Nice lacing.

Aroma is nice and hoppy. Cascade hops for sure. Bit of caramel malt.

Taste is great. I love rye IPA's. It adds a smoothness. Nice hop bite in the finish. Nice hop flavor.

Mouthfeel is a bit heavier than I like but not too bad. Nice carb.

Overall a great Rye IPA. Check it out if you get a chance.

Bottled on February 3, 2012

A: Redish with a substantial head and lacing.

S: Mostly citric hops, but not all that pronounced.

T: Bitter citric and piney hops with a sweeter citrus hiding. The malt is a pleasantly fully and bread and faintly sweet. The finish is slightly dry and long.

M: Full and creamy.

O: Maybe I'm just not in the right mood for this beer right now, or maybe it wasn't stored very well, but it doesn't do much for me. That said, there's nothing bad about it. I'd rather have a Righteous.

picked up locally...enjoyed out of a founders snifter.

a - brew poured semi transparent amber with a HUGE frothy ipa off white head. super sticky lacing. lines are left showing every sip i took.

s - heavy rye earthness.

t - an assault of rye on my taste buds. fortunately, i like rye. this is very different since as an IPA the hops are invisible behind the rye explosion. earthy. enjoyable, but not in the traditional sense for an ipa. some of the classic hops are suggested in the background.

m - good carbonation, medium bodied.

o - overall, not your traditional ipa by any stretch of the imagination. rye explosion. if you like rye, you'll love it, if you don't, you'll hate it. ipa, it is not...RYEpa, it is.

A: Very clean and transparent with lots of bubbles. The color is a dark shade of bronze with a red tint to it. There is a decent sized eggshell-color head that leaves lots of lacing. It looks perfect.

S: Not much scent to it...I get a minor acidic smell to it (hope that makes sense) and a light malt scent.

T: It tastes very good. There's a light rye flavor to the beer which is good, and it is pretty rich on malt and has a light smokey character to the flavor.

M: The mouthfeel is really good. The malty character seems like it would slip this away from being any kind of IPA, but the rye seems to work perfectly with the hops to bring a kind of "pinch" effect on the palate.

O: Overall I liked this beer regardless of what style it might be considered. If you're a fan of foods that have a rich savory flavor, this beer would suit you. I liked it, and I would drink it again.
