A: The beer is clear copper in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high frothy and dense light beige head that died down but consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and lots of lacing running down the sides of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of pine resin hops in the nose along with notes of citrus hops and hints of peppery spices.
T: The taste is rather bitter with spicy flavors from the rye and pine resin flavors from the hops. There are also hints of the underlying caramel and pale malts.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very tasty has an interesting mix of piney, spicy and citrusy flavors.

Pretty excited to try this. Heard good things. 12 oz bottle. Bottled on Jan 3rd.

A: Pours a big light beige frothy head, huge head. Appearance is a clear light brown/deep copper. Leaves excellent lacing, almost a sheet. SN always nails this aspect of a brew.

S: Very hoppy, like an IPA, mix of citrus and tropical, pineapple, a touch of maltiness/bread. Aromatic for ABV.

T: Taste is a peppery, citrus hoppyness up front. Some lemon, pine, grapefruit all come through. Then get hit with the rye/malts. Finishes with a leathery/rye/spiceness. Must be the rye flavor. Finish is a bit rough with hints of dark cocoa. Not digging the finish. Flavors seem to mellow out as beer warms, seems backwards.

M: Well carbonated, slightly thin and seems rough on the mouth. Does have a hop oily-ness to it. Leaves the palate quite dry.

O: Definitely interesting, seems well crafted in that there's a lot of different flavors/notes going on. I just don't like the rye flavor I feel. The IPA part of it seems spot on. If you want a Rye IPA you wont be disappointed, even though I don't like it, I recommenced it, if that makes sense.

medium dark amber color with some lacing. Body is clear.
The nose is not as hoppy as i was expecting really, there is more spice notes and rye character then anything else going on.
The flavors taste more like a malty rye pale ale then an IPA, and this can not be old. Bready is a strong description, earthy hops, and rye spice.
mouthfeel is medium full with a low amount of carbonation.

I have to say, i was excited for this one, but it is probably one of my less favorite of the SN beers.

Potent but flawed Rye.
___

A: Clear, dark amber body with a fairly persistent, sudsy, yellowed two finger white head

S: Big noseful of resinous hops, rye spice, and buttery caramel malt. Very inviting.

T: Quite a lot of flavor, with sweet caramel malt dominating up front, passing through a nice helping of rye spice on the way to a drying, resinous hops finish, yet somehow, all is not perfect. There's a certain metallic holowness that's preventing the very nice flavors from shining.

M: Highly carbonated with a drying finish.

appearance - amber, transparent, generous off white head, good retention, medium lacing

smell - rye, malt, grass, hops

taste - nice hop profile mixed with some rye/wheat/grass notes, some citrus in there as well

mouthfeel - medium body, full carbonation, slightly dry finish

overall - could use a bit more hops to balance out the rye but it does well once it warms up especially

Appearance: Copper color with one finger of head that fades to a thin cap with some spotty lacing.

Aroma: A strong grain aroma is detectable without even picking up the glass. Upon closer inspection, piney hop oils are the big contributor. There's also a slight breadyness with some grain husk mixed in.

Taste: A nice, medium, toasted malt body is present right from the get go, with a fair amount of bitterenss that gets more resinous and phenolic as it goes down. Decent carbonaton helps break-up some of the bitterness towards the back end, but then it comes right back on the finish, which is mildly lingering with fading bitterness. The malt profile isn't is sweet as I would typically expect, which I'm going to put on the account of the rye. It definately has a unique flavor.

The Rest: Lots o'hops and a unique malt profile make this one to check out. I don't think I'll have any issue finishing the sixer that I bought.

a: This was a dark, golden caramel color. It poured with a large, sticky, very creamy head.

s: Plenty of citrusy pine with a surprisingly noticeable spicy rye backbone.

t: There is a hint of caramel sweetness up front that is quickly pushed aside by a wave biting rye and earthy, pungent hoppiness.

m: Thick and chewy.

o: Another reasonably priced, excellent IPA from SN. Love those guys.

Picked up a sixtel at Lukas after hearing good things. I've had about the half the keg and feel comfortable reviewing now. Poured from my system to a pint glass the beer pours a perfectly clear dark copper color with a 2 finger white/cream colored head with excellent retention with lots of lacing remaining. The aroma is big with a lot of peppery spice, rye, citrus, and piney hop character. I enjoy the blend of spice from the rye and west coast hop tones. The flavor starts with the same intense rye pepper spice on the tongue. The hop character found in the nose comes through and again melds well with the spice. A foundation of caramel malt. Medium bitterness. Finishes crisp and clean with a lingering pepper hop on the tongue. Upper end of medium bodied and well carbonated. Overall, this is a really good representation of a Rye IPA. I'm enjoying it very much and would easily recommend.
