Amber in color Keith good clarity, and frothy white head that rings and laces well.

Aroma gives up earthy grain, nuts, and only a slight touch of rye and and a kiss of earthy hops. As it warms a note of caramel emerges.

Flavor brings to mind dry roasted nuts, cracker, a brief flash of caramel sweetness, and a dry rye grain. The short finish is dry and slightly bitter.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp enough.

Overall a simply tasty beverage but i don't taste as much rye as I would like.

Pours a clear deep copper color with a solid one inch khaki head they leaves slight lacing.

Aroma is dominated by lemon and grapefruit, bready, toasted sweet malt, and a fairly significant amount of rye. Cola emerges as it warms, along with pine.

Flavor showcases an underlying rye presence throughout the profile, with grapefruit, citrus pith, mango, and toasted malt adding complexity into the bitter, peppery rye finish.

Body is moderate, with moderate carbonation. The finish is fairly dry.

Overall, a very nice ipa. I'm not the biggest fan of rye beers, but this has enough hop character to entertain my palate.

Bottle from Beer Deluxe. From notes.

A - Poured really hazy. Medium brown colour. Good carbonation. Really fluffy two finger white head leaving decent lace and and rings of retention.

S - Rich malt, mild citrus, dark fruit. Mild.

T - Lot's of hop flavour, rich malt, spicy rye.

M - Spicy dryness in teh finish, good carbonation, medium body.

O/D - Pretty neat. Lot's of flavour and not bad to sit and sip but the spicy rye was a bit much. Otherwise alright.

Pours a clear, copper color. 2/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of citrus hops, sweet malt, rye, hint of roasted malt, slight caramel malt, and a hint of citrus. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of rye, hint of roasted malt, slight sweet malt, hint of citrus, hops, and slight caramel malt. Overall, good appearance, great aroma, good feel, and good blend.

A: Pours a nice copper hue with a healthy head of cream colored head on top. Some amber in both the body and the head. A significant amount of bubble action in the body. Very nice feature. It's kind of wowwing me.

S: That classic West Coast sweet malt aroma with a nice citrus background. Some earthiness to be sure, but that's not up front. Very nice balance all around. Good feature.

T: Not really getting the citrus flavor that was in the aroma. Lots of caramel and toasted malt taste. Some biscuity malt too. Enough earthy hops flavor to keep this from being a malt bomb. I think what makes this better than some other malty IPAs is this taste fresh.

M: Solid medium body with some nice hoppy chewiness. Sweet malt coats the mouth. Solid carbonation. Feel is better than good.

O: I really like this beer. This might be the best Sierra Nevada beer out there. I'm digging it.

A - This pours a dark copper body, with a fairly thick and fluffy beige head. Really good head retention and some decent lacing. This beer looks quite similar to Sierra Nevada's Torpedo.

S - The aroma is very citrusy (orange, grapefruit), with hints of caramel and bread.

T - First I get that signature Sierra Nevada hop bite, with zesty grapefruit and orange notes. Then come some apparent pepper notes, a slight sweetness, and a nice rye breadiness. The finish is fairy dry and bitter, with some lingering resinous qualities to it. As it was warms up, I'm starting to get even more rye bread and more sweetness, with a pronounced caramel taste.

M - Medium-bodied. Medium level of carbonation. Quite peppery, especially right after it's poured. Not boozy, but if you let it warm up enough, you might feel some alcohol esters.

O - This is my first Rye IPA, and I've got to say I really enjoyed it. It's quite similar to their Torpedo Extra IPA, but with a more peppery and bready side to it. I hope they make it a regular seasonal release.

I am sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a pint glass.
The beer pours a clear copper hue with fluffy eggshell white head of 3-4 cm. the head creates windowpane lattice and rocky craters as it recedes to a sturdy surface layer.

Aroma is citrusy hops and a little spicy rye with just a bit of caramel.
First sip reveals an average body and fine tingly carbonation. Flavor is briefly grainy caramel malt and then rolls to some bitter rindy hops and bit of black pepper. Finish is dry and lingering bitterness. No hints of any booze and a fairly smooth overall experience. Nice bitey brew.

Poured from a 12 oz stubby into a unibroue snifter.

A - A rigorous pour yields a 2.5 finger bone white head. Red amber in color. Looks like a nice bourbon besides the fizzy head that doesnt really stick around much besides a few wisps.

S - Smells largely of american hops. Not bad, but not much complexity.

T - Same with the nose. Great hop flavor and bitterness but lacks complexity. I rarely get that peppery/sharp rye flavor. I never taste the alcohol, but it finishes bitter and dry.

M - A little light bodied and overcarbonated for the style.

O - A solid drinkable IPA, but the rye aspect doesn't really seem "ruthless" to me.
