Poured from a 12oz into a brandy snifter.

A: Pours a clear, bright, deep reddish orange. Rocky almost-white head. Pretty beer.

S: Peppery rye and spicy, citrusy hops. Sweet grapefruit.

T: Starts off with a spicy blast of peppery hops mixed with spicy, bready rye. Hearty grain and juicy citrus. The rye certainly makes itself known, but forms a fantastic balance with the hops, melding together into spicy, bready goodness. Moderate bitterness lingers in the finish after another dose of sweet citrus.

M: Medium bodied, with a great carbonation level lending some creaminess.

O: I love this beer. The rye is assertive, and is a fantastic compliment to the hop profile.

Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass

A - Mostly clear amber with a moundy off-white head that clings to the sides of the glass. Copious amounts of lacing.

S - Heavy pine with some soapy grapefruit aroma. Rye is very present

T - Wow! Rye is pronounced right out of the gate. Green pine, herbal hops mix well with the bold rye. A grainy pale malt gives good backing to the spiciness. The hops provide nice bitterness and finishes dry and spicy.

M - Medium body, great carbonation, dry and bitter.

If you like rye, this beer is for you as the brewer was not shy with it. It was very pronounced but really seemed to compliment the excellent IPA based beer rather than overpower it. Well done.

Pours a hop orange hue with a malt bill adding ruby to the hue. Decent head. Great lacing and retention.

The aroma is a little subtle. The rye seems to cover up the hops but doesn't really make much of a presence for itself.

The taste is more towards an IPA than a rye beer, but neither aspect is weak. The hops bring pine and floral notes into the game while the rye is quite foundational and brings a lot of richness to the brew. Normally rye isn't my thing but I found that this was done very tastefully.

The body is medium weight and thickness. The finish is overly dry and slightly sticky.

Overall, I liked this a lot more than I expected to. With the nice flavor and SN's price range, I think I'll probably grab this beer fairly often. I'm not sure that I'd say this is the perfect rye beer, but it's pretty close to the perfect rye beer for me.

A- gorgeous red brown which turns into a clear orange red when held up till like. Reminds me of the rock in Jurrasic Park with the mosquito trapped inside. Thick cap up fluffy white foam tops it off.

Great nose. grapefruit, pineapple, mango, citrus, pine- it's all there. pine and citrus dominate as it warms.

T/M- sour grapefruit and a touch of malty caramel sweetness up front ride into a biting bitterness and peppery spiciness. Citrus and pine visit the party, but take a back seat. Finishes with up biting, dry bitterness. Medium body with a tight carbonation.

O- the nose is awesome, but the taste is a little bit of a one trick pony- straightforward and assertive for sure, and lacking a fruity balance to the almost harsh bitterness and spice.

Just one of these is enough for me, it doesn't fit the bill for a good session.

A - Deep beautiful amber. Fair head with decent lacing.

S - Hops, citrus and grapefruit

T- Follows the smell nicely with a hoppy grapefruit taste. Levels out into a dry finish with a bit of spices. Pleasant.

M - A light to medium body on this one, I believe it could use a bit more. The carbonation is on point and makes it very drinkable.

O - This is a fine example of sipping on a well tamed grapefruit! Any IPA lover should certainly give this one a try.

Poured from a 12-oz bottle to a 16 oz glass.

A-NICE creamy 1-inch head. Lacing followed all the way down, as I consumed it.

S-Hoppy...like an IPA should be

T-Grapefruit followed by a slight bitterness. VERY pleasant.

M-A touch more carbonation is called for, IMO

O- I bought a 6-pack that I do NOT intend to share with "just anyone". This is a VERY good beer.

Pours deep amber with a finger length white head. There's an aroma of spiciness, grain, and citrus. The immediate flavors that hit the mouth are hops and malt. It's a little spicy in the finish. The rye flavor is definitely there. This is an interesting and well balanced IPA from Sierra Nevada. There is nice lacing left on the glass. The body is fairly light as is the carbonation. Overall, I'd say this beer is very solid and drinnkable.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Deep amber color with a blend of red. 2 fingers worth of white head that dissipates to a few large chunks. Very nice lacing along the glass.

Smell: Hops of pine with hints of bread.

Taste: West coast hops for sure, but also has a nice malt backbone. The rye adds a nice spicy element matching the black pepper in the nose that becomes noticeable in the finish. Nicely balanced. Another solid IPA by Sierra Nevada which is definitely present in the hops profile.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation and body. Nice crisp finish bumps it up.

Overall: I am a fan and will continue to drink it. Love my rye beers. The added unique spice from the rye is wonderful. Love the new offering from SN and now have another go-to beer when in doubt.
