Pours a deep copper with a generous white head that lasts for a long time and leaves good spider web lacing on the glass. The aroma is of grains, some citrus, and piney hops. Taste is sweet malt with a hint of roast present and keeping things in balance with solid hop bitterness. Palate is medium.

I've been drinking a lot of this while it was on tap at my local beer bar. Sierra Nevada has not been known for IPA's, I guess since they're so well known for the pale. Then came the Torpedo, which was good but I think this is one of their best beers.

Appearance was typical of an IPA. Dark pale, good carbonation, very inviting looking.

Aroma was almost perfect. Great hops balanced with the malt and alcohol.

Flavor as well was a great balance of bitterness, hop flavor, malt and alcohol.

Great IPA, that I highly recommend.

A: Pours a deep copper which is nearly red with a finger of off white head that recedes to a small pool with some lacing
S: Smells of resinous and dank hop aroma and some spicy rye character
T: caramel malt sweetness, resinous hop flavor(tobacco?) and rye. floral hop flavor on the swallow with some sweet caramel malt and spicy rye
M: typical mouthfeel for the style with slightly prickly carbonation
O: A tasty IPA and a very nice rye beer.

Reddish-amberish with a small white head that quickly leaves the scene. Sweet and piney aroma, hops seemed kinda week. Taste started off a little sweet the rye kicked in towards the center alongside some pine. Flavor seemed kind of lacking overall, could have been an old faded bottle? Medium body but crisp with some activity from the carbonation. Overall, was not too impressed with this. Nothing about it stood out to me, though nothing about it made it bad. Just kind of meh.

Always a good idea to pick up something new from Sierra Nevada and found this recently.

Appearance - Deep copper brown with a nice pillowy quater inch of head lingering after taking a few sips, it isn't going away from the look of it.

Smell - Smells like the classic IPA with pine and the scent of grapefruit coming through very clearly.

Taste - The simple way of describing it is that you get a good IPA at the start then moving to a nice spicy finish with the rye. Solid bitterness of the hops upfront, light pine taste going along with citrus blend. Then it immediately takes a U turn and the maltiness comes through, rye popping on the tongue with some peppery tones.

Mouthfeel - Nice carbonation mixed in giving it a bit more heft than most IPA's. The taste lingers because of the light coating that the beer leaves.

I really enjoy this, lots of interesting flavors that worked really well together for me. If you can find it I'd say it's worth a try.

A: buckwheat honey
S: floral, spicy (cardamom) but also slightly medicinal/plastic
T: full, rich, noticeable bitterness, not much hop aroma/flavour, clean fresh maltiness; well balanced; bitterness lingers
M: tons or richness
O: a bold direct "masculine" beer that would probably be better enjoyed with food.

A: Deep copper, bordering between red and brown

S: Some pine resin, grapefruit up front, but sweet, tropical fruit is back there somewhere. Interesting.

T: Bitter hop bite up front reveals what I got in the nose; pungent piney hops with moderate citrus paving the way for bready and caramel malts, finally finishing with a peppery, bitter bite from the rye. A lot going on here.

M: Smooth, medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

O: Despite a heavier mouthfeel than many IPAs, the bitterness lingers enough for me to think I could session this thing beer pretty well.
