A: Pours a somewhat hazy reddish-brown with a medium-sized, tan colored head. The head has a dense, frothy texture and solid retention. A big ring of lacing sticks to the glass, with lesser wisps trailing below.
S: Malty nose. Big caramel notes, with some sweeter toffee character in the background. There's also some toasty and nutty aroma available. Hop aromas seem balanced between citrus, pine, and herbal notes.
T: Hefty maltiness up front. A fair amount of caramel sweetness is coupled with toasty and earthy flavor. Hops build into a firm bitterness. Herbal, citrus, and pine hop flavors are noticeable. The bitterness fades into a fruity, faintly tart finish.
M: Some chewiness up front. Carbonation is on the light side of medium. Hops contribute some dryness, until the finish ends somewhat thinly considering the maltiness. A bit of alcohol is noticeable, but it doesn't detract from the beer's enjoyability.
D: This is pretty tasty. My only gripe is that it's a little rough around the edges. This has a complex malt bill (sweet, malty, and toasty) along with a complex hop profile, which creates an interesting tug-of-war on the palate. Still, this has something for everyone without seeming too big to be drinkable.
